Klymit static V

Post by Motorman »

Any words of wisdom from those that have used a static V (Non insulated)
Looking to buy one from over the pond - good enough for spring summer use?

Uninsulated (R 0.23) and 514g. Apart from the extra width I can't see why you would. Any reason why the Static V?

Think I'd buy one of the new NeoAir Venture mats instead, it has a level of insulation (R 1.8), weighs 590g and can be had for under £50: http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/therm-a-res ... at-p292551

£30 & being hand delivered to me by a friend who lives in the states is what caught my eye in addition to the pack size & width

In that case I realy can't fault it

For spring/summer it should be fine ... it does have a slightly higher R value than nothing which might be something to do with the body mapping layout.

It's also very tough and packs down small, which could be key features if you want it for a long trip.

I haven't used mine in anger yet outside. On the kitchen floor and in a friends spare room, it seems comfy enough. Certainly comfort than my old Thermarest. If anything, a little bit firm in the centre but I'm sure that can be adjusted with a tweak in pressure.

I am a little concerned how it does in cooler months tho....

Having said that, the Venture does look interesting. Same toughness of fabric and possibly similar pack size (and weight)?
