Cooking in a bowl, not as stupid as it sounds.

As we all know Ti pots/pans tend to be expensive and often small ones don't just have enough capacity to knock up a 'proper' meal. With this in mind I set off on an amble across internet land and came up with this.

It's made in Japan by Snow Peak so the quality isn't in question. It only weighs 45g, is 140mm diameter so it's big enough and best of all it only costs £11.99 ... that's right less than 12 quid. Spend ten minutes fabbing up a foil lid and you're set

We'll see ... I've no reason to think the bowl will be thinner than a mug or pot. The weight saving will come from not having a lid or handles. Oddly SP 1400ml pot is lighter than their 900ml pot although they appear the same design ?

As far as bowls are concerned, if you're just boiling water for re-hydration of dried food or a brew, I can't see any disadvantage.

You can't cook in Ti, unless you have a very controllable flame, the only stove I've managed to cook with in a Ti pan is a MSR WindPro. If you're just boiling water to rehydrate why not go the whole hog and get a tinfoil tray like takeaway food comes in??

Using a similar principle, I lift the pan a little further above the flame if my food is burning by using my hand/arm, which as I have them with me already doesn't contribute any extra weight to my cooking equipment

Uhhm, I got my weights from a US site ... I'll do some weighing, I'll also weigh the bowl when it arrives, if it's sub 60g then I reckon it's still a winner

Sure you can; coz I'm a food ponce I regularly cook carbonara/risotto etc. from scratch using fresh ingredients in my Snow Peak ti pans on my Pocket Rocket (or Snow Peak stove whose name escapes me but suffers from valve creep). I might have weighed every piece of kit I own and put it on a spreadsheet but I just can't compromise when it comes to good food. It's lucky I don't like coffee, that'd be a real nightmare!

Well I'm not going with the cooking with Ti argument! It always seems to chemically fuse with the ti, due to hotspots.

Here it is ... it's come in a few g heavier than advertised but I still don't think it's bad. The sides are deep enough to allow the use of a 'pot grabber' if you're inclined. It's got a useable capacity of just over 500ml and a total capacity of 650ml. Add a couple of g for a foil lid and away you go ... all things considered I don't think it's bad for £11.99.
