So pack the smidge? I still suffer nightmares from being trapped in my tent in the highlands.

I'm saying nowt about midges and whether you should pack Smidge, a head-net or Agent Orange ... I was simply answering the question, 'are there any midges out yet'

Re: WRT weather?
Its in the Telegraph must be true

Typical sensational doom and gloom headline of the next ice age yet if you read through to the met office quote it says 2-3c below seasonal average with widespread frosts and snow flurries in far north. Sounds typical WRT weather to me
They also say we had highs of 25c, where the hell has it been 25 degrees in the last couple of weeks!??

Balls. Oh well, time to start removing bits of my route... and maybe reconsider the 10c sleeping bag.BigdummySteve wrote:Weather forecast is looking a bit more interesting

Re: WRT weather?
The met office seem to be forecasting high winds, temps down to feels like -5 and snow in the forthcoming week!! Decision made.... winter bag an mat being packed.

Re: WRT weather?
I use Ventusky, Met Office, XC and BBC Weather and choose the one I like best.

Darksky.net seems quite good for weather forecasts.
Can use co-ordinates, which is handy

Re: WRT weather?
I never listen to the weather forecasts, mostly because I have the attention span of a goldfish. This means I get distracted (Oh! Look at the castle) and then I don't know if they've done my bit yet. But anyway I never make any decisions on the basis of the forecast. If it rains, it rains. And anyway, any forecast longer than tomorrow is just a guess so why worry about what they forecast for next week?

Re: WRT weather?
So you will be the one in shorts and Hawaiian shirt with sunglasses then.................so why worry about what they forecast for next week?

My granddad was a fisherman back in the days of the drift netters sailing off the Moray coast.
All he would ever say if asked what the weather was going to be like tomorrow was ' it will either rain or come dark before morning'.
Never understood what he was on about.

Re: WRT weather?
should be a touch of snow on the ground by the look of it! I'm sure we'll get an update from BB towers over the coming few days though. It's going to be bloody cold and windy though, feels like temps of -7 at some points. better bring the winter gear.

I'm wondering about in shorts and T shirt ... I'll leave you to decide if that says more about the weather or more about me.I'm sure we'll get an update from BB towers over the coming few days though.

I'm going to adopt the tried and tested method of poking my head out, wet= raining dry= going to rain

Re: WRT weather?
Regardless of what the forecasters may or may not say, I can tell you that every night this week, temps have dropped to around freezing. An east facing, hillside with light tree cover and natural shelter from the west would get my vote for an overnight spot ... a valley bottom would not

Re: WRT weather?
I just checked the Met Office forecast for Mach, and it doesn't go higher than 20% chance of rain for any period over the weekend (except the middle of the night on Sunday night, which is 50%).Richard G wrote:Ugh, looks like I'll be carrying my full on waterproofs. Yay, more weight!
Am I being optimistic by assuming that means it's not going to horse it down?
Re: WRT weather?
BBC showing heavy rain for Sunday where I'll be, and I've usually found them reliable.
Re: WRT weather?
It's definitely looking better, almost weather I'd normally consider riding in on Sunday now!
