Re: Wildcat

You can buy iron on seam tape (similar to that used in goretex jackets)from profabrics.co.uk
Easy enough to apply with a house hold iron, low to medium heat to start with and a piece of grease proof paper over the top to stop any glue wrecking the iron.

Re: Bikepacking with Kids

Excellent idea :-bd I've sent my request to join. I've been bikepacking with my 9year old daughter over the last few years. Now having to plan on taking my 5 year old son along with us. Logistics around carrying equipment and easy route ideas are the headache, but looking forward to seeing other peo...

I've used Tyvek to make a crampon pouch. It was an offcut that i had lying about. It's cheap, light and relatively durable, It's done 3 winter seasons so far and is still going strong

FS Weehoo tagalong bike trailer Glasgow area

My son is now happily pedalling his bike and it's time to sell on his Weehoo tagalong. I'm advertising it on a few sites to hopefully sell it pre Christmas It's in good condition and comes with 2 connectors and a bundle of plastic reducers to size them according to your seatpost diameter. We used it...

Re: Family bikepacking tent advice needed

My wife, declaring herself to be outdoorsy, proves not. So be it. My wife, although outdoorsy, has this idea that 'camping' should be like the family caravanning holidays she had as a kid. I did persuade her to do an overnight family cycle to a youth hostel this year which she enjoyed. I think if t...

Re: Family bikepacking tent advice needed

Had a few WC tents... I have a WC Blizzard (pre compact), it's a great little tent. Have slept in it with the Mrs and our 2 dogs and it's survived a night of really terrible weather with no issues. The porch is excellent. (Jeez they have got expensive). Was bought to replace a Hoolie ETC and save a...

Re: Family bikepacking tent advice needed

I realise you're asking about a single shelter for all three/four of you, but I've done various camping trips with my two kids and generally works best - and is more enjoyable for everyone involved - with two shelters. Kids share a small two person tent and I kip under the Gatewood cape..... If I w...

Re: Family bikepacking tent advice needed

Thanks for the replies so far. Lazarus- thanks for the offer on the Roebens. I'll have a think about it and might be in touch, although i'd probably be wanting an inner to protect from the midges. Stu, if I go for a pyramid i'll be in touch about a custom pole. If anyone has any experience of using ...

Family bikepacking tent advice needed

Hi, Looking for some advice re tents, but not the usual compact, lightweight, gram shaving.... i'm looking at something to bikepack with the family- kids (aged 9 and 5) and possibly my better half, if i can persuade her. So far i've looked at 3 person tents such as the MSR Mutha Hubba(pricey) tunnel...

Just great this. Well done you both. I've tried to encourage any of my 3 girls to come along and none of them interested. The wild weeing and poos put them off, even though I've promised them toilet stops. Still hoping one might change their mind. One of my 18 yr olds, who is into birdwatching, mig...

Trossachs daughter/dad ride and camp

Kicked off the father/daughter bikepacking '24 season at the weekend with E wanting to go somewhere that she could toast marshmallows. We decided to see what the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park camp site was like at Loch Chon. Although I'm not keen on campfires, the site provides a fire ...

Re: Wanted - an old down or synthetic jacket for making down booties.

I've made a pair of goretex camp slippers using the template from:
https://andersj.se/lagersko-nr-1-lag-modell/

I'm going to make a mk2 version to be more of a bootie style and include a removeable synthetic inner that i can wear in my sleeping bag.

Re: Badger Divide - Parking Glasgow?

You can park in the West End at North Kelvinside. It's the area around Kelvinside Academy - Kirklee Road/ Bellshaugh Road, plenty of parking and no payment/restrictions. It's also close to the finish at Kelvingrove museum. Alternatively, you can park in Milngavie, on Main Street, B8030 opposite the ...

Thanks all. Some good ideas to try out.
I'm tempted to try a repair, i've not got much to lose.
I do like the idea of a padded malt bottle holder. Might get my sketch pad and pencil out on my days off and see what i can come up with.

Ideas for old self inflating sleeping mat?

Hi, I'm looking for MYOG ideas on what to do with an old Alpkit Airo self inflating sleeping mat. a part of it has delaminated on both sides and a bubble of outer material inflates and i suspect that is where the air is slowly escaping from. Did think of slicing it and gluing it but it's a 4-5"...

That's an option, but i think i'd need to change the deraileur and possibly the shifter. I'll do a bit more research on that.
Thanks.

it is a specialized stout one.
Hi Ton,
It is a square taper. Do you know the length of the crank? It's to fit a 24 inch wheel bike for an 8yr old.

Advice on lowering gearing on a kids bike

Hi, I've got the wee one a Frog 62 bike. Only problem is that it osn't geared low enough for some hills we go up. The chainring is 32T and the cassette is 11T-32T. I initially thought of swapping out the chainring for a 28 or a 30T which would've lowered all the gears, however, having disassembled t...

I'm in a similar position in terms of age of 1st child and bike packing kit carrying capacity. We've had a few adventures but as she grows bigger it's more difficult to carry everything. She usually has an Alpkit tapered Airlok bag under her saddle which is jammed with some spare clothes and small l...

Re: Cargo trailer info required

Some of the burley trailers allow you to take the seats out and use it as a cargo trailer. Unfortunately the current Burley trailer is moving on to the brother in law early next year. It is a huge space to get stuff in. Had to pick the kids up from the in-laws a few days ago and i chicked my daught...
