You could use a 26in tube? I've got some geax ones that are 140g.
Little bit of thumb work getting it in, but doesn't really take any more time, just a different technique. Got 3 29ers between me and the wife, and no 29in tubes.

Re: Racing in Norway anyone?
I love Norway, me. Looks like an amazing ride. If 3000km is a bit far, the climbing is a bit much, and the cost as well, just next door is Finland. Ruska 2018 is on now. 2000km, less climbing and, "Price.. should be between 5 and 20 euros to cover all the needed brevet cards, bells and whistles...

At least they're decimal inches, not 2 and 5/8ths"Annoyingly MTB tyres use imperial units for widths and rims use metric.

Re: New Salsa carbon bars .....thoughts
I'd have a pair of Carbon Cowchippers. Pretty much perfect for my need/wants. Bit more flare (not flair, but that as well) than my ally cowbells, - woodchippers not for me. But the ally cowchippers are already way pricey. I'm not going to spend more than double that for a bar that's 75g lighter, whe...

Re: WRT - Scary? Unappealing?
all the talk of HaB I'm just joining in, really! Not done a WRT, first event was Winter this year. I was riding with an old(ish) hand, so the route we started with was mostly well known and rideable, and when we checked the time and our enthusiasm levels at the windfarm, we ditched the "explor...

Re: WRT - Scary? Unappealing?
I've zero interest in HaB as type 2 fun. I don't think that providing a route, rather than have riders having to spend ages looking over maps to decide a suitable route through an area they don't know Forcing people to plot their own course means they might come back quite a few times, still believ...

Re: Brakes
They are BB7s ISTR that one side is fixed and this makes it hard to centre neatly. And however often you adjust them, you'll still end up with pad wear on a slant as the moving pad pushes the disc in to the non moving pad. Had my BB7s for 7 years and 15,000miles (??? ) on the commutey monstercross ...

nice write-up, johnny! good pics of the water and the dam, too. I think a return visit for the WRT is on the cards. Me too! I read back (a bit late!) to see your note about the bits you'd found. Cheers anyway. And thanks again for organising, great weekend! We met a few people at the cafe, but me and Paul were in the staring-into-space-and-shoveling-cake zone - I think we both thought we'd be at the cafe "shortly&qu...

Re: Cafe Racer GR are GO.
I don't suppose anyone found a black specialised helmet at the community centre or in the car park, did they? Couldn't find it when I went for a ride last night. Had to pinch the wife's.
The helmet is old and due for the bin anyway, but I could do with having the exposure light mount.

Cheers whitestone, I'll have a look at that later.
Had my first negative experience of the Openmtbmaps at the weekend. A few tracks, even some surfaced roads we followed on our route weren't on the openmtbmaps map.
Good job we had Paul's OS on his etrex.

Looks like a solid insert, looks bushnelly still, though. Interesting that he;'s gone away from the expander. Wonder what the reasons were.It looks like it's got a bushnell ebb but it's also got a split bb shell

Re: Tool lust...
I've got a 12" length of gear cable in the tool box for this. Probably worth the 3 grammes to take it out with the bike tool kit.I did read a tip that you could open quick links by threading a shoelace through the link and pulling in opposite directions, never tried it though.

Hi Steve I might be interested in the 20/20 bars. I really like the pair I've got already, but a bit cautious about 2nd hand carbon. Have they had a lot of use? Any scuffs and scratches?

Re: Boring nylon question
Cheers Steve, That's the one I've gone for. Hadn't planned to ditch the harness, but I'll have a play when I get it. I'm thinking I'll still be keen to keep the worst of two days of mud spray off the drybag, so I imagine I'll stick with it. Other thought is that I'll be strapping to truss forks this...

Re: Cafe Racer GR are GO.
I tend to try and carry as much as possible so that I'm comfortable, but still able to actually cycle. That's what I decided when I was briefly considering the lightweight sleeping bag plus liner and down jacket. It's a long time dark this time of year, and I'd rather spend that time sleeping well ...

Re: Shoes n boots for flats
giryan, I've heard a bit about them, one of my riding lot uses them and likes them - he wasn't raving evangelical about them, but he's the quiet type anyway.
They make a lot of sense, and I suspect that looks/fashion is a lot of the reason why most won't try them.

Re: Shoes n boots for flats
I've been thinking about this recently and I think my ideally biking shoe is actually pretty simple. It'd be a bit like a Croc (hear me out) - same material but with a basically flat sole, though with tread cut into it. It would have loads of grip on flat pedals, some grip on rough ground/grass, no...

Re: Boring nylon question
I did mean circumference, yes. As soon as I read yours, I realised most of the time you're looking at a bar bag, "width" is the length. Last time I used the 22L ortleib on the hardtail, I had the front wheel scuffing the harness when the forks compressed. Wildcat suggest 8L and 13L fit fin...
