Re: What sparked the fat bike revolution?
Pugsley sure helped, but I reckon Surly having production wheels and tyres - and making them readily available - was a critical piece of the puzzle. And by available, I mean as OEM for other brands outside of the QBP stable. Frame builders could've made fat frames whenever, but ready access to the c...

22-24... worn clothes more than 48hrs, less than a week, and levers depends on the tyre, but no help ;) I was against the gravy on chips, too... then Canadians intro'd me to Poutine . And since moving to Australia, my Sister-in-law has enlightened me to the restorative power of a chip and gravy sand...

Yeah, it was touching 40C... with last w/end the same and most of the week in between be 33c+... not much time to recover or rehydrate. Whilst doable, not fun! Pool with the kids instead!

Re: Soft Shell trousers
How bad does it get in Oz? Surely it can't be like Wales in winter  no, but cold enough and wet enough. nerd data for Woodside, Adelaide Hills We've had snow the past couple of winters (though it doesn't hang around) and early starts/late finishes don't help the warm and dry scenario, general...

Re: Soft Shell trousers
Yeah, got the 3/4s, warmers, etc. Got the winter boots etc for feet. Just if there are any good ideas for full length trousers - rather than the faff of 5 bits of other kit to do the same! Ground Effect just the wrong shape for me, although does seem reasonably made from what I've seen. Online revie...

Ok, I live here already, but... Australia.
More than big enough to spend weeks at a time, 'out bush', but also the ability to re-stock and re-supply easily. Also, able to shoe-horn in the tourist/beach/sightseeing stuff and convince the other half to let it actually happen, perhaps??

However, bike related... 1. get lost/explore more up here. 2. SuperDirtonneur 3. bikes... CX/gravel grinder thing to replace the commuter...

Re: Fat bike hub spacing?
150 front allows for the use of the new Bluto squishy fork; If you are wanting to go that way in future, it saves having to change hub/wheel at that time. Watch the Salsa bucksaw video: they chose 4 inch over 5 due to the autosteer on firmer ground. I can't confirm or deny as no first hand experienc...

Yay, not just me then ... I like a nice mix of roughly 30% purple, 30% gold and 40% silver. That gives me a real glitzy shimmer when the thing blows off the rim and covers me :-bd You choose the colours?? I just add a good shake of whatever the kids have in the craft box... green at the moment, I t...

Re: want to go tubeless
I have 717s and found no drama to get the tyre beaded... loads of soapy water. Then a bit more again. I also used CO2 as its the volume of air quickly that is important to get the bead to seat. Haven't needed to use the strap method, but have heard of it working. Have you put tyre on with a tube in ...

Don't have a problem with putting bags on mine - is the issue that the seat's too low? Yep, so my short legs can reach the peddles  https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5601/15270557309_f20b251c4c.jpg Surly Krampus by Brother Smith , on Flickr Surely bottles in a chaff bag at bar/stem or under saddl...

Am I the first to suggest that as it's an ice house, it'll be bloody cold?!? Never thought of that! Not necessarily... be about minimizing the temp change from outside to in, not making it colder. That said, it doesn't look overly toastie in there, though windbreak and out of elements etc looks bet...

Re: Reasonably priced 170mm hubs?
Try dropping a line to the guys at Dirtworks.com.au about some Dice hubs. These guys were the Salsa, Surly distributors here for a number of years and now have their own brands (bit like genesis=madison...) including Dice which do Fatbike stuff for their Salted Bikes brand of Fatbikes. With exch rat...
