Next year, I will ....
... ?
So what challenges or targets have you set yourself for the coming year? X number of miles per month? Bivvy a month? Stop buying new bikes*?
*I realise this one is really stupid and might lead to high levels of stress which could damage your health.

Stop buying studio equipment and start getting better bike bits.
Ride more climbs and singletrack...the weekend showed me my weakness there and how much my fitness has dropped. *sigh*
Pending no bio/mechanicals...finish TD aiming for GC...unfinished business.

Get the Borders 350 ITT up and running. My wife had some some bad spells of ill health through 2014 so I didn't get out as much as I would have liked.

Re: Next year, I will ....
My main focus for next year is getting ready (or as ready as I'll ever be) for the Outlaw Triathlon in July. So plenty of cycling miles to be done, alongside swimming and running.
Want to make sure the mountain bike gets used a fair bit in that prep though, so hopefully get out on my first proper bivvy trips too.

Dales 300
Peak district ITT
BB200 (+?)

Possibly the Haworth Hobble

Hopefully get to Nepal if work timelines are hit, been wanting to go back for a few years now. If not, summer tour in the Alps. Need a big mountain scenery fix. And a social bp event, maybe the train to Scotland for the CG loop also.
Re: Next year, I will ....
Lots of stuff with my son, kicking off with Strathpuffer.
Way of the Roses in a day.
HTR550 ITT
Cairngorms Loop
Dales 300
Borders 350
Something big over the summer.
Relentless 24

Cairngorm and Mary Townley loops
mostly because they were on this years list and didn't happen
Scout out some parts of the HT550 route and have an explore around parts of the highlands I should know betterer
Oh and make sure I enjoy myself and not get injured
EDIT: I forgot to add in the ridgeway double. One I would like to do over a weekend not as a sprint.

A bivvy a month - incorporating at least one mid-week bivvy direct from and back to work... and at least one road based overnight bivvy on my 1960's series 1 F Frame Moulton. Maybe in all of that, I'll manage to get the teenage sprogs out too...
Hopefully the WRT and the HONC
Having ridden Dunwich Dynamo on an 80's MTB on knobblies carrying bivvying kit - I feel I should repeat the experience with my newly purchased modern bike (Genesis fortitude Adventure)
and maybe some slightly more civilised cycle camping with my wife, and maybe the sprogs too....
can't wait...

Not so much a gravel grinder.... more a gravel (mud and tarmac) groveller...

Re: Next year, I will ....
- Bivvy a month
- >10,000km ridden
- Ride to or from The Alps (new Eurostar service to Lyon I need to check out)
- Riding in Scotland
- Qualify for PBP but don't intend to ride it - 6,500 riders is to many for me
- Watch start of Trans Continental race in Flanders and HTR550.
- Entered Prudential Ride in that London but yet to know if I am in.
- WRT or Cairngorm Loop in May
- Northern part of PBW. Possibly do a mash up of Sandstone Way and PBW in a Berwick to Derby ride.
- Ford Fiesta and BB200
- Welsh coast to coast ride.

Re: Next year, I will ....
As I ticked the bivvy a month this year I'm not going to religiously go out and bag them in 2015, but I'll still get some in.
So the plans plans are a social Ford fiesta, and I wouldn't mind a multi day fat bike trip somewhere. I might even give the Welsh C2C a go and the BB200 and WRT. I'll also like to go back to having a few days touring aswell but I'll have to see what permits

Re: Next year, I will ....
Once again I've got big plans for the coming year.
I managed about 40% of my plans for this year and so figure that if I plan more and achieve the same proportion of said planned things then I'll have ridden more - no?
Anyway, planned things are:
- Ford Fiesta
- 2 weeks 'training' in Majorca
- Tuscany Trail
- Time Megeve
- Navad 1000
- The Etape
- TMB in under 48hrs
- BB200 (under 24hrs*)
*tussock dependent
I'm hoping that my common sense impaired (beer and chocolate treat abusing) self can be tamed to the extent that I actually achieve the above but only time will tell.....

- Lakeland 200
Re: Next year, I will ....
ride my bike and enjoy it,
will do some events but never set targets as half are just dreams/non starters,
also try and master electronic mapping as this holds me back from entering events

it's not that I can and others can't, it's that I will and others won't.

Finish the ht550
A 24 hour race
Might gear myself up for the 3 Peaks CX

Spending more time on my mtb than my other bikes.
Sleeping out more.
Riding the WRT and BB200
Riding some Alpine uplifts.

Gairym - are you planning the Tuscany Trail as part of the race or at another point during the year?Unread postby gairym » Tue Dec 23, 2014 7:54 pm
