Reasonably priced 170mm hubs?

Post by Bearbonesnorm »

The Hopes are just too expensive, the Origin8 OR8 is only available in the US from what I can see and On-One don't sell theirs on there own ... Anything out there?

Strip down a pair of On-One Fat Not Fat wheels and use the hubs and rims separately?

Salsa hubs are re-badged formula and the last time I checked were pretty much the same price as hopes. Kona fit joytechs to their Wo's but feck knows where you'd get them from. I looked into this a couple of years a go and came to the conclusion you either had to buy on one wheels or stump up for a pair of hopes (they are good apart from the occasional exploding hub body on the rears)

You could try the classifieds or wanted sections on the UK Fatbike forum. Reasonable turnover of bits there.

Just in case the answer isn't an obvious one, why are you after those hubs? I thought you'd decided against fat tyres after your half fat experience.

do they ship over here though
They were on my list Dave, they will ship to the UK ... although it'll be a customs lottery.

No, it is the obvious answer. As much as I don't 'get' fat bikes for general riding, there's certain areas where they excel and I'm thinking if I can put one together cheaply then I might give it a whirl.

Try dropping a line to the guys at Dirtworks.com.au about some Dice hubs.

These guys were the Salsa, Surly distributors here for a number of years and now have their own brands (bit like genesis=madison...) including Dice which do Fatbike stuff for their Salted Bikes brand of Fatbikes.

With exch rate, they may work out good value. I can give you an Aussie address if needed. If you can wait until Jan, could even get them to you with minimal postage when my folks return to UK from a visit. Doubt you'd wanna wait that long though! ;)
