Re: South Downs Way trip

One of our other mtb mates dropped us off at Winchester and picked us up in Eastbourne . We thought of trains and other travel ideas but that was easiest. The Soul is ok for bike packing duties plenty of frame space for bags and not too heavy the 140's I'm running up front probably are a tad too lon...

A night on the beach

We decided a couple of weeks ago to do a night on Mersea island . So yesterday 5 of us rode the 27m to the island and with thanks to (chicken legs) a area had been pre chosen (a great spot) . Bar harness's !!

I'm not using one currently but wondered if I should ? I use a 720mm normal (ish) mountain bike carbon bar (Pro Answer) with shimano SLX brakes & shifters . The straps I use are Alpkit with a 13L airlok dry bag . It sits on top of my cables away from the head tube and seems to stay put apart fro...

Finally today I got the time to play with my Alpkit 3.5 tarp . I tried various ways of putting it up using bike only and the end result was good (sadly I can't show you as I've no computer) but I'm on instragram under mtb_69 if you would like to go look and comment .. Looking forward to my 1st night...

I'm ready now .....

After weeks of reading (thanks for the advice) , sorting and buying my gear I'm ready (I think) .

I'm gonna start local and do a couple of quick over nighters .

What are the common mistakes I'm gonna make (and learn from them) ?

Tarpers ....

Do you always put them up the same way or change depending on location/situation ? Do you take a spare length of guyline for such a time or sort your lines for all situations ?

Re: Bivi bags ...

Then I think I'll stick to the Rab ascent / Msr Ac then (or another if theirs one !) . I'd rather something that lasts and at 625g the Rab isn't tooo heavy (is it !)

Thanks for the advice
