Re: Your input please ..
@ jameso I used to travel with an aluminium folding dahon jack 26 wheel bike but after it took a beating from the baggage handlers resulting in a bent seat stay, started looking for a steel travel bike ( making the assumption that steel seems a little more robust and can be bent back into shape with...

Re: Your input please ..
how hard would it be to license ritcheys break away frame design? Would love to see that in a reasonably priced tourer. I had to go to the trouble of paying for one to be imported. I expect air line fees will only ever go up for taking a bike so a couple of hundred extra up front would soon be repaid.

Ritchey breakaway track set up 42/16 for commuting and also bike packing on the ridgeway. Running 25mm kenda karvs it's surprisingly fun off road!

Re: Klymit X-lite users ...
i used the smaller klymit xlite on the welsh ride this year and found if I stuffed it into my bivi bag I could sleep on my side on it. I think it helps if you are on soft ground such as sand or grass. I inflated without the additional bulb thingy. I think it would be back only on harder ground.

Re: Oooh new goodies at PHD
that racer sleeping bag looks great, only annoying thing is PHD won't tell me the fill weight of down in the bag. I'd sooner not buy a 260g bag with 20g of down in! Current bag is a yeti vib 150 with 150g of 800 fill down in. If I knew the fill in the PHD I could compare it warmth wise. Anyone got a...

Re: Aluminium cooking mug - where from?!
this one is super cheap and very light, i have one but think capacity may be a bit low at about 350ml. It works well with the bear bones ultralight meths stove so expect it would be fine with a can stove as well.

thanks Stu and Dee I had a great time on the WRT lite and my friends had fun too apart from the hills! Done about half the GRs in a loop then took them on a slight detour to Aberdovey to sleep on the sand dunes. Will be back next year!

Re: No longer a mountain biker.
I wonder if this has anything to do with the amount of marketing for mountain bikes now? It seems there are loads of different categories and if you don't have the right kit you don't fit in? Think about the image you see from online videos or footage of the TDF. For MTB its all downhill riders, hen...

Re: Ultralight weights - sub 25lb?
@chew I would be impressed if anyone turns up for the full two night WRT with 25lbs of bike, kit and food. Getting the kit weight down isn't too expensive but I reckon you could do 3k on dropping a bike down to the 16 - 18lb range. I do have a dream build list for a single speed based on an ibis tra...

Re: Ultralight weights - sub 25lb?
@s8tannorm - I used a standard salter digital kitchen scale, which seems accurate. When I buy things with an advertised weight they seem to agree. I'm a massive geek about these things so usually take a photo for my own reference. Any bits in particular? Some stuff I went through several version s t...

my summer set up, i'm limited to single nights due to family commitments so fairly easy to go light. I normally wear rohan dry ascent trousers, even in summer as they are waterproof but lightweight. Cuben tarp on the way which should be sub 100g. exped 13l dry bag - 41g terra nova tarp 180g ballon b...

@s8tannorm - good point the yeti bags are not the warmest. @dave barter - one thing worth considering is the yeti does pack much smaller than most bags, around 1.5l. Cheapest I can see the yeti bag for is £153 delivered here http://www.mightcontainnuts.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&...

Re: A new camera
if you have the cash and don't mind a little extra weight the nex 6 is a great bit of kit. Its low light ability is miles ahead of most compact cameras. It has some manual controls too if you are into that sort of stuff. I get 400 plus shots without using the flash so it last a good time too. Generi...

Re: Bag for a *possible* benighting
I chuck a yeti vib 150 (390g 1l pack size) and an amk heatsheets emergency bivvy in my pack when walking. Adds very little bulk and gives me a just in case option. Not the best nights sleep as the amk is not breathable but far better than having nothing! In summer I have swapped the sleeping bag for...

so i have had a play around with myog stoves for esbit, I'm using a red bull can top approx 1.75 inches tall but can't seem to get it to boil 300ml of water, even with two 10g esbit tablets. Any suggestions on optimum heights? It does seems like its almost there and suspect it will be hot enough to ...

Cuben balloon bed sounds good, where from and how much are they? I can add it to my list of kit I want but really don't need!
I spotted terra novas 50g ultra bivy and 88g ultra tarp, problem is its the better part of 250 quid for each of them!

Re: Cheap night out challenge
So that's shelter sorted for a quid! You can get a 300ml aluminium cup for 95p from outdoor clearance and hex amine for£1.50. Can anyone suggest a myog solid fuel stove and pot stand? Can anyone suggest a cheap sleeping bag? I think you might be able to do it all for under a tenner? I would suggest ...
