BB200 Route Gossip

Post by Ian »

Seeing as the route hasn't come out yet, I thought we could have some wild guesses on where the route goes.

My money is on NE, towards and possibly over the Berwyns.

Logic: Stu has been out that way on the fat bike and also recce'd some stuff on the way to the BSO :geek:

When does the route come out, by the way?

I've no idea where but reckon after last years grumbles he'll have started off with the intention of making it fairly rideable...

...Then gradually reverted to type :-bd

He mentioned a stinging nettle filled alley that he backed off from during recce. That will be in then.

Now he's gone and got a fat bike, I can imagine responses like "what do you mean that bit isn't rideable?"

I'm not sure where that is, which makes me think north east as I don't know those parts so well

But leave it with me, I reckon there's enough in the image to be able to work it out :geek:

From t'other thread:
Dyffers wrote: Can't find any details on the BB200 page about the date you're emailling the route out Stu. Will it be the Saturday before (3rd Oct)?

Hopefully not Sunday as I'll now be away working from then until a day before the ride  At least the company will be paying for my 'tapering'
Chance of getting it this Saturday? Otherwise I have no time to sort some maps out for it.

I'd hate to see people suffer  ... so, if anyone is needing to purchase paper maps, can I suggest that you buy Landranger 136 and 125.

You know that famous WRT photo that keeps getting trotted out, the one where a wheel is half way into a bog.

That was Bala/Lake Vyrnwy way if I remember and in May (doh)

Though I'm not riding in this years event, I've lived in the land of sheep my whole life and seem my fair share of the worst it can offer

My advice, bring a wetsuit and a snorkel

Judging by all the comments on this event and the WRT, did you actually plan the routes with the possible of actually RIDING bikes in mind? Surely we'd all be faster (and lighter) simply leaving the wheels behind and calling it a mountain marathon? (or better yet, your average CX race  )

In my defence, the WRT doesn't have a route, so finding yourself bollock deep in bog at 2am on a desolate hillside is entirely your own fault  With regard to the BB200, I firmly believe that any decent mountain bike ride should include a certain amount of walking / pushing ... but sometimes I do get a little carried away.

The Berwyns are one of the few places I've had to push my bike.... downhill and that wasn't die to steepness either  (there's plenty of other places I've done that though )

Consider what would happen if you were travelling the other way.
