Alpkit Shakeout
Anyone going?
I was thinking about riding down and back, but I probably wouldnt arrive till midday on Sat and have to set back off home Sun lunchtime.
£60 is a bit steep for that period of time

I think I'm giving a talk on the Year Record there. That's worth £60 alone.

You are as far as I knowI think I'm giving a talk on the Year Record there.

I shall be there and so will Greg who will be explaining how to nourish yourself in preperation for those big days out. Ian will be showing folk the best ways to pack and what to (and not to) take, plus other bikepacky goodness which is all included in the price.
£60 does seem quite a lot but there is a meal included, plus a T shirt and any profit goes to charity
May the bridges you burn light your way
Re: Alpkit Shakeout
I am thinking about it at the moment , as I can ride from home it only about 40 ish miles
stuart are you limited on the number of people who can join each bikepacking related talks etc , or is it whoever turns up .
as I think I read on the alpkit site it was only about 15 people at a time , for greg and ians , and the tarp school.

I also intend to drink/eat/blag as much food as I can :)
I will be riding down from Manchester area after getting back from Chamonix that morning. I intend to be rather tired, and possibly a little thirsty. A dangerous thing in an Irishman.

Have thought about it but am away at a conference til sat midday. Then I would have the boys in tow so it would be quite pricey.
Which is a real shame as I'd be up for it otherwise...and I still might.

As much as I'd like to go, it's too spendy once I factor in diesel to get there.

I believe numbers are limited for the workshops and you book yourself on when you buy a ticket - details can be found here: https://www.alpkit.com/bigshakeout/ticketsstuart are you limited on the number of people who can join each bikepacking related talks etc , or is it whoever turns up .

Strangely, the bikepacking workshops appear to be about the only things you don't have to pay for ... how good are we

Re: Alpkit Shakeout
Quick Q for Stuart - for those of us on the delivery end, the Art of Bikepacking has "6 remaining". How many were there to start?

Re: Alpkit Shakeout
As far as I'm aware, there were 12 spots. I've contacted the woman who's organising the event today to try and get more details for all concerned. Seems a shame and somewhat of a surprise that there doesn't seem to be a great deal of interest in the workshops ... but I suppose, much depends on how many people are actually attending the event. How many were there to start?

I think your tarp school is full up stuart
Re: Alpkit Shakeout
So the Art of Bikepacking by yours truly is now sold out
Spent a bit of time this evening planning the details for the session and things are looking interesting already
Is there anyone off here that's got their name down for it?

I'm coming along, but didn't get a (free) ticket before they went, for either the tarp school or art of BP... I'll have to coninue to live in ignorance of both...
Apparently there's a "bikepacking village" (oh the irony), Stu / Ian, and if so I'll stop by, with other half and sprogs to say hello and get my very little chaps (4&5) excited about tramping on bikes.
See you there.

Tom and I are riding down on Saturday after a CX race in the morning.
We're doing a talk that I've not finished yet.

Winging it is always a good option Rich or open it up as a Q&A sessionWe're doing a talk that I've not finished yet.

I've changed my approach to the Art of Bikepacking several times. Now don't know if I'm coming or going, so might just have to do what Stu suggestBearbonesnorm wrote:Winging it is always a good option Rich or open it up as a Q&A sessionWe're doing a talk that I've not finished yet.

I've also realised I have an embarrassing amount of bivi related kit...

As someone who doesn't do "presentations" I'm hopeful I have something vaguely exciting/mediocre/shocking sorted now.
My slot is at 6:30 see you for some beer before, and lots later.

I've been called a Pack fetishist on another forum...
I currently own 15 backpacks of various sizes and use, not including my 4 hydration packs and half dozen DIY packs....

It was very good Greg, really enjoyed it as I'm sure everyone else who listened did. I would just like to say a very big thank you to Greg, Ian, Dave and Sarah who put in a considerable amount of time and effort to attend and entertain the crowds ... very much appreciated. I would also like to thank all those kind souls who listended to usI appear to have managed to talk poor show for two hours and a bit...sorry about that. Hope anyone here who was there enjoyed it.

Re: Alpkit Shakeout
We came along & learnt about tarp origami and 1001 ways to boil a cup of water. Great sessions
Just got home after a beautiful ride back ready to put our new found skills into action.
Loved the whole weekend, although calves are a little tender after 3 hours of pogo-ing on the 'dance' floor!
Also realised that BikePacking is a heck of alot easier when there is a beer tent, band and cafe at your overnight camp spot
