The lower stand off falls a fraction just below the fork crown. I've laced the webbing strap so as it is tightened it pulls the hanger towards the headstock and it all tensions up. Not sure I've explained that very well, ill try and take another picture.
So here is mine, a bit of bending and hammering and it's all done for £5.39! It's rock solid and gives loads of cable clearance, I think it will work very well and better than my previous setup.
I've managed to get the lower stand to sit on the fork crown. Is that how you'very done yours or does it sit on the headstock? Can't quite tell from the photo.
It sits on the fork crown, tried it on the headset at first, but it wouldn't fix properly and was wobbly. Had to stretch it a little to make it fit, but once it was there it just locked tight using its' own tension between the bars and the fork crown, secured it with a piece of paracord and chord lock from an old bag for peace of mind, but I think it really doesn't need it.

Were having our first wild camping trip in Wales in June, planning to ride byways and bridleways in mid wales for a couple of days.
Hope it holds out over the rougher stuff!
Mines done about 350 on and off road and has been spot on too.
I bought one for my daughter's bike but she has v brakes and the headstock is small as it's a child's bike so I had to try and bend the lower stand off.... at which point it broke at the join :(
Custard feet I've read the write up of your overnighter at the bothy on Strata Florida Mid Wales. Were heading close to there on our mini adventure, camping @ Llyn Brianne reservoir and riding both Soar y Mynydd and Doethie valley trails.
Out of interest have you or anyone else reading this come up with a maximum ,load for the front carrier?
Have never really thought of maximin or minimum weights. Try to keep the weight down as much as possible, always changing things around. On that trip I used a 13l Alpkit Dual Airlok. Inside was my sleeping bag, 3/4 sleep mat, sleeping bag liner, bivvy bag & down jacket. This weighed in at 2kg & was fine. My whole kit weighs about 6kg, plus water, continually trying to make it lighter. The more you carry the fitter you need to be, I always pack a few times before I set off, then when I return I remove what I didn't need for the next time. Hope this helps.
