a 3 day loop, Neath/Afan Valley

Post by HaYWiRe »

Plans are set for a 3 day 2 night trip around my local mountains, distance is hardly epic but ill be going at tourist speed, soaking in the trails and scenery.
Although this is the valleys, so some pretty gnarly climbs are unavoidable ;)

I leave today, 12 miles of canal towpath to town, then meet up with my partner after her work for 10 miles of coastal NCN, then up to Afan bike center to try whatever trails look appealing, camp there and day two is a "make it up as I go along" route

After all, isn't bikepacking the solution to the 'i wonder what's over that hill...' Curiosity?

Packing the bike soon, will post pics and updates from the weekend

Day 1 done, 35 miles of NCN and road. pitched up at the bike centre, quite warm night but midges out in full force, got eaten alive by 9pm

Sat in the cafe now for a full English (although late) breakfast, then a few loops of single track to pontydryfen to start the day

Still no pics till I get image hosting set up

Halfway through day 2, conquered Blue scar trail, while average for single-track it was more technical than I'm used to, mostly fireroads, towpaths and gravel roads for me

A few accidents, alot of mud, plenty of rain, and some odd looks as I was climbing on a fully loaded hardtail while most were on FS Downhill bikes walking up the trail

I think most local riders have never seen a bikepacker before
