tarp and footprint or tent

i am a desert man and do not use a tent .
even though ,i have a 1.1kg traptent tent .
would itvbe wiser use this instead tarp& footprint& bivvy or not ?
the weather in the hlt 550 can be tough .
cold at night for sure.
i have bothies poi on my garmin .

midges might be an issue. I'm going for the enclosed tent option.

There were plenty of midges last year.

I did not regret carrying a tent.

Don't rely on there being a bed at all the bothies. I know of one that was full when I passed in the evening.
