Issues transferring a big route onto a Dakota 20
So I'm trying to transfer a GPX route onto my newly aquired dakota 20. I've tried it from my Anquet maps programme, Garmin Mapsource and by just dumping the GPX file into the Dakotas own memory but when I view the route its been cut off. This is the HT560 back route and its only showing it from the top for about 100k.
I get the feeling its struggling with the number of waypoints but there will only be about a 100 or so on this section. Any suggestions?

It should work fine, it's only got 2747 trackpoints.
Save as a track, not a route.
What's with the 100 waypoints?

Have you tried feeding the route into bikehike.co.UK and then exporting it as a gpx track? My Dakota struggled with a 330mile route recently cutting it off short.

Can you stick a web link to the gpx on here and I'll try and load it to mine later for you

Your Dakota sir, just loaded a 2711 mile route without any hassles.johnnystorm wrote:Have you tried feeding the route into bikehike.co.UK and then exporting it as a gpx track? My Dakota struggled with a 330mile route recently cutting it off short.

Interesting......
Perhaps it benefitted from the factory reset and having all the files wiped from it?

Or maybe because the TD route is put together by Scott Morris from Topofusion who knows his stuff, it's got as few points as possible and works well, on my edge 800 too.
I just got premium on Ridewithgps, and it's great, can split, join and edit multiple routes together, and when you export it can reduce to 500 points for old units plus lots of other stuff. Well worth it if you're a route planning obsessive like myself.

Splitting sounds useful. A number of times I've wanted to change just a small section (and make use of follow roads functionality) but you can't really do that unless you're dealing with the end of a track you're working on.

Sorted - Muchos thanks for that. I think the problem was my out of date versions of Garmin mapsource and Anquet maps. I couldn't figure how to save the route as a track. Bike hike is a great resource I've been meaning to have a shot of it so I'll use that from now on.johnnystorm wrote:Have you tried feeding the route into bikehike.co.UK and then exporting it as a gpx track? Thanks all
