Newbie question, what do you do for water?

What do you guys do for your water needs, do you carry filters, boil it, use chemicals? I need advice as I always used to carry enough water in for my needs but now i'm going lightweight this won't be an option. If you use filters can you recomend one that doesn't cost the earth?
