What 1 person shelter?

Post by Clink »

I've used various tents before (Blacks Octane 1 and 2) for mountain marathons and occasionally used a tarp and Alpkit bivi. However I fancy a new shelter for the WRT. I prefer the idea of a more tent-like tarp, so the Trekkertent Stealth caught my eye on here. It will predominantly used in summer, but possibly at any time. Anything else similar I should look at?

I've recently been pondering the same. I went for a trekkertent stealth 1. It hasn't arrived yet, but I've only heard good things...

Hi Taylor. Lunar Solo currently not available - better than the Stealth?

I'm a massive fan of my SMD 'Skyscape Scout'.

Spacey, light and not overly expensive.

Best ask Stu as he's used both.

They're quite different really. The Stealth scores on having a fully removable inner and an outer that can be pitched high or low, so it's very versitile. The Lunar wins on head room, porch space (just) and only requiring a single pole. I've not suffered much condensation with either but if conditions were right then the Lunar should be worse given it's a single skin / hybrid / tarptent.

Sorry, that's probably not much help.

Hi, interesting looking options,
looking at the Stealth 1, are there any major advantages over a tarp other than the detachable inner?
also would the 70cm & 110cm poles from the shop fit the bill for pitching or is it a custom pole job?
thanks for the help.

That depends how good you are with a tarp  . It's easy to get a tarp set up so it looks great but in reality it's only a gust away from falling over, the Stealth is very stable.

Yeah, they'll work fine. However, if I know they're for a Stealth I reduce the rear pole to 66cm.

If I buy a Stealth I assume shortening existing poles involves copious amounts of PPE and a hack saw?

No need Matt, It will work just fine with your existing 110cm + 70cm poles.

From the MLD stable, I prefer the Trailstar.

I'm playing about with a SMD Gatewood cape at the moment, similar to Nigels suggestion of a Wild Oasis but without the perimeter netting.

I'm still favouring the Stealth, not least as it's a UK firm. Is it worth paying/waiting for cuban fibre?

The Stealth's cracking and Marc's great, he's also very willing to adjust/alter/incorporate different ideas should you have any. As for the cuben, it's certainly lighter but it doesn't packdown as small as sil' does. I suppose it really comes down to cost and whether saving the weight is worth the price.

Matt's right, it is 10  In reality the 40d should be a bit more robust but I think unless you're using it in some horrific conditions on a regular basis the standard 30d is more than up to the job ... unless you don't like grey obviously.

excellent, grey it is then, ordered, hopefully will turn up before the WRT.
Stu, you mentioned that if you knew the poles were for a stealth you would make the rear pole shorter, do I just order the poles and make a note in the requirements that it is for a stealth 1 ?
thanks for all the replies, much appreciated.
