Isle of man overnight trip

Post by voodoo_simon »

Thinking of doing an overnight trip on the isle in July. Apart from hosting the TT, I know nothing of the Isle, so can anyone give me any pointers?

Was thinking of taking the fat bike due to the long beaches and have a wildcamp but that's as far as I've got. The ferry is £40 return and will roughly give me 24 hours there

Sounds like a plan. What more could you possibly want to know!

Oh, well maybe bring a map

I have been over a couple of times now and there is plenty of good riding and loads of trails. I have a mate who lives there though so he was "guiding".

I can try to dig out a few gpx's of routes we rode if you are interested?

There were so many trails going off in all directions but they aren't always marked very obviously. A coloured dot painted on a tree was often all that marked the trail head. My mate did say though that there has been some work done of late, to try to link up a lot of the small trails into a proper network with some more signage but I'm not sure how much has been done.

Here's a video of one of our trips that shows the sort of riding.

I should have been going across for the Manx100 at the end of July but I suspect my knee problem has put pay to that. :|

I know it's road, but cycling the TT course is fun.

(...and surprisingly hilly)

Watch out for the venomous badgers. Or was it wallabies? One or the other. Either way, be careful.

Stoats, that was it. And cannibals.

Cheers for the help everyone, if you have time composite, the gpx files would be nice to scan through (bikefreaks at hot mail dot com).

I did think of looking at the TT course, could try getting my knee down on some of the corners
