Like Mary bars, but wider

Post by Ben98 »

I think this has been done before, but I can't find it
Does anyone know of any bars with a similar sweep to the Marys, but getting up towards 700mm width?
Many thanks
Ben

Salsa woodchippers or Ragley Luxys. Maybe.

The latter are discontinued so good luck needed on eBay / classifieds.

I started with Mary bars as my first high back sweep bar but wanted something wider so went with the salsa bend 2. I have both sizes of back sweep and although I don't really notice much difference I would probably go with the 17 degree if I needed another pair.

EDIT: BTW they are 710mm

'carnegies' are being re-made I think as an OnOne bar, there's also the bar specced on the new Genesis adventure-29er bike, 700mm with 25-30 deg sweep, looks good. Jones Bend bars are like H-bars but 1-pc, ££ tho.

I heard a whisper abour a new On-One bendy bar too ... hadn't realised it was a Carnegie though, not that it's a bad thing.

The On One OG bar should be landing towards the end of this month, there's a Carbon one which looks the business at £80 and an Alu for around £30. They are just under 700 wide and have a good backward sweep on them. I've been riding the Alu ones for about 4 months and they are very comfy.
STOP PRESS.. The Alu ones came in yesterday and should be on sale very soon. They're £24.99, fill yer boots.

I run Carnegies on the Hemlock and Marys on the commuter, hoping the new On-One OG will have a fair bit of rise as well as sweep... can you comment?

Dimensions should be posted on the On One website very soon, I run mine on a Van Nic Redwood 29er and they feel fine.

Those new On-One bars aren't much, if any, wider than Marys though, are they?

Got a set of Carnegie's knocking round the garage which I don't use anymore. Didn't use them much as shortly afterwards I discovered the wonders of Jones bars. I think they come in at 700mm. Drop me a PM if your interested

But they don't go forward before sweeping back like Carnigies, Mary's or H bars.
Shame.

Yes they do:
25° backsweep, 6° upsweep
38mm rise, 33mm forward offset
They're about the same as the Carnegies I've got here, at any rate.

I take it back, I didn't see the pictures of the bend on my phone.

Ta for the heads up, have wanted to try some for a while.

Will see if they've gone yet. Bit like hens teeth.
