Ochil Hills Overnighter

Managed to get an overnighter away and decided to go to The Ochil Hills. 75 miles ridden but 50 of those on road or disused railway lines. Still had great time.

Bivi spot in the morning. First use of my new Rab silwing tarp and Stu's poles. Also the first outside use of my exped down mat, very impressed with all of it.

The reason I chose to come here. This path hugs the hillside for nearly two miles. The top two thirds are mostly hardpack but at only four to twelve inches wide and mostly a rut with sides sometimes coming up to the bottom bracket or higher it's not a place to loose concentration.

A long way to fall should you catch a pedal or wheel.

Bottom third becomes a lot more technical but it was very muddy and my all rounder tyres couldn't cope with braking, they just packed up with mud and slid so I had to walk some bits.

A great two days out, definatly go back there again.

Looks like a great little trip fella.

Did you not find that there was massive amounts of dew in that particular bivi location in the morning (or was it cold enough to be frost)?

No frost, it was pretty wet everywhere so don't think I would have noticed a bit of dew. Spot was chosen to get out of the wind which was gusting down the glen pretty hard times.

Fair enough. I ask as it looks identical to a spot I chose a while back and come morning everything was soaked.

Nice one ray. Good to hear all the new gear worked well. I'm liking the look of the tarp and pole set up.

Learnt how to alter tarp height on the poles from Stu's tarp review (thanks), very simple but I would never have thought of it.
Forgot to mention that I could have suffered quite a nasty injury. I was pushing the bike uphill following a fence line when I stood on an old rusty steel fence post that had broken off close the the ground, it was very sharp and pointy and went straight through the sole of my boot. Luckily I noticed as it was going in so didn't put all my weight down, if I had it would have gone into my foot by about 2 to 3 inches  , very lucky.
