Couples and Bivvys - Do they work together?

I'm interested to know if many couples go bivvying together.
I've been in a bivvy with my partner a couple of times and we plan to do this regularly in future. However, it's a bit lonely in a bivvy bag if you get my drift.

Vaude make a double bivvy bag. Looks quite a simple affair but I imagine would work fine. Big Agness produce a double sleepingbag: http://www.ultralightoutdoorgear.co.uk/ ... g-bag-p651 not cheap but not that expensive either all things considered.

The other option is alfresco and get some rain on yer bum

Thanks for the links guys, but both of these are just sleeping bags. Did I mention I was looking for 'sexy hotness' ?
I can zip bags together anyway, but what I meant was that keeping the bags in the outer bivvy bag (to keep the wind and rain off the sleeping bag was 'lonely' and was wondering if anyone had heard of a double.
I may have to consider a real tent for - ahem - a bit of privacy as I hate a wet bum.
So are there many couples out there doing this bikepacking and wildcamping?

This is the Vaude 2 person bivi bag ... very light at less than 400g too



In reality I don't think there's many couples bikepacking because there isn't many woman who appear interested*. You do seem to get a lot of couples who complete long distance walks though.

*In the great scheme of things there isn't that many people of either sex, when you consider how many people ride mountain bikes ... we're like the punk rock of cycling

EDIT: if you were considering a tent, I'd take a close look at the Trailstar. If you add a door from Ookworks you'll have all the 'privacy' you could want ... don't get a cuben one though as the walls are a little see through

For a while Alpkit had a 2-person sized tarp tent thing, that was a regular tent gone a bit wrong - pretty good value for £60 iirc! You could email them and ask as I can't see it on the site now.

I did ask my wife if she'd like to come bivvying, or even camping, but all I got was an insolent glare. She did relent after a while and said we could find a nice hotel and ask if I could bivvy in the grounds while she had a nice room... :?

MPolo is on the case with the tent possibility. He's been showing me some tarptent models. One looks like a stealth plane. Need a few more monthly salaries in the coffers before we start buying more kit and to be honest, the tarp is great fun, even though I've one eye open for the creepy things at night.

The quest for a new Rohloff to replace the alfine 11 will probably be the first priority.

Yorlin, if your wife was never into the outdoors, you should have known better than to ask. Though, it's a pretty safe hobby for a wife to 'ALLOW' her husband to do, consider the lack of temptation...

Tent works well for two. There's certainly no weight penalty compared with two bivvy bags.

How about bothies? Mrs Scotroutes and I will be taking in a few this year (on foot probably)

She does like hillwalking and cycling and that sort of thing - she just has high-faluting ideas about what is comfortable. And she likes my beard so I had to have her!

I've got a tarptent Stratospire 2. We used it when we were trekking in Iceland. Can be used with or without inner, opens up nicely, can be used with poles or trekking poles. Comfortably sleeps 2, could sleep 3 at a push, door each side and room for a pack in each porch. It's the bees knees.

Ive had some great times as a couple in the past. I would say light tent rather than double bivi. More privacy and better if you sleep at different temperatures.

Privacy is not really an issue in the middle of nowhere - and thats half the fun surely

Dan_k, menage a trois bivvying? There are some odd goings on with this bunch.

Stannorm, Dee was brave to tackle the midges in Ireland. I'm from Donegal and the feckers get me everytime. They don't seem to live on the Hampshire Coast which is ace.

Adjustablewench, I think you're absolutely right about sleeping at different temperatures because I have a very warm bag compared with MPolo. It also weighs twice as much. And as for the 'Type 2 fun' I'm fond of the outdoors, but perhaps I need some soundproofing.
