New bike time...

Post by voodoo_simon »

After a new bike in the coming months and this time, it's going to be a fat bike. Budget is £1500, so plenty of choice out there. Would prefer a 170mm rear hub so I can run larger rims (so no surly) and get more float and it needs to be a 16 inch frame or smaller (so sadly, no genesis  ).

This leaves me with a few options
-On one fatty
-Charge
-Salsa mukluk
-Custom build on a 9 zero 7 (if budget allows)

Any opinions on these (or any I've missed out)? The bike is for snow use too if that makes any difference

I don't know a lot about fatbikes but I've been riding my Mukluk in the snow in the Alps this winter and I've been loving it.

Charge Cooker Maxi has a 135mm rear end.

I've got an on one fatty and it's great but the mukluk with alternator dropouts will give you more options & it's got all the braze ons you might need.

Didn't realise the charge was 135mm but James' PSA means I've clicked on the mukluk frame. Correct size and colour too as I nearly bought it from triton Cycles earlier in the week :D

Cheers for pointing it out too Composite, I'm one happy chappy :D

I think the on-one Fatty has more gears? It's been out of stock for a while though..?

There's also a Kona Wo (looks like a rebrand)

And the Genesis Caribou - looks okay? Has the Salsa forks with the 3 bits to take the Anything Cages - possibley not the best reason to get a bike

Edit to add, Charge Cooker Maxis are out of stock too? :o

Double Edit - if anyone got in on the Singular Puffin order I would be dead interested to hear!

Ian's been riding a Puffin for quite a while ... I assume it's a pre-production one though.

OO Fatty devotee here. Handles lovely tho it's a lump of a thing on climbs. Have you had a look over on the ukfatbikes.co.uk classified section? Seen some incredible bargains there.
I'm just going outside ...

I looked at the classified section on the fat bikes forum but being a short arse, it was quite difficult. Anyway, frame and wheelset are now sorted. Just got to figure out tyres, cable/hydraulic brakes and gears/singlespeed options :)
