Oddly, Get-a-map give a total ride time for the route of something like 16 hours

Well, I've only just opened them up, but my first problem is the file configuration.

The GPX file consists of 1400 odd way points and no "track" to upload to GPS, so I've got to spend however long
creating a track along the line of your waypoints unless I can think of a workaround. As a result, from first impressions, I can't see how much climbing is involved or see a route profile or to see how close your route is to 200km :?

Having ridden a lot of similar sort of terrain this week (in fine weather, I might add), I'd say it looks pretty hard*, but I've yet to study it in great depth, though some sections I recognise well. Not wanting to make a complaint on the route per se, but I was expecting to go over the Drygarn the other (i.e. correct) way

* edit - not that I was expecting it to be easy, of course.

ok my prob is a I.T issue i cant view files using my windows 7 im getting a 84bit 64 bit incompatibility check system version icon pop up when i extract files to view files

You should be able to view the route profile on the get-a-map website.

Is everyone trying to use the single route gpx file or the 3 part one ? The 3 part one should have less waypoints and has worked on gps fine.

The route looks good, just hope my legs are up to the task after 3 weeks off the bike. The route works just fine. I've uploaded the route via bikehike.co.uk and it gives me 4459 m of ascent. I can donwload from that website in to a number of different formats ie a gpx track (but I just used Base Camp to create tracks from the routes). All is good :)

Yes indeed, put the gpx file from the email into bikehike.co.uk and then convert it into a gpx track file if that's what you're after.

No! ... Anti-clockwise just like it said on the email

Clockwise means the route gets harder the further you go, anti-clockwise will ease the pain towards the end

The full gpx goes anti-clockwise (at least it does once I've loaded it into Quo, not tried it on anything else).

I don't suppose it really makes much difference whether the total ascent is 600m or 6000m ... you're still going to have to ride it

Just to clarify, the route runs anti-clockwise so you'll have to hit the 'reverse route' button on bikehike if yours is showing clockwise.

I'd not get to hung up on the ascent, programs always differ, I always +- up to 900m. All I know is that over 4000m for 200km using bikehike makes it lumpy, which is fine, we are cycling in Wales.

Just looking at route and wondered about re-supply. Am I right in thinking that Elan Valley (about 3k off route on way out) is the first opportunity. After that it will be Ffair-Rhos or Pontryhdfendigaid?

Have not quite worked out what time I may make it to these places. And what about Sunday opening in the more remote places. Elan Valley visitor centre on return should be ok I guess.

On the return leg, the Spar at Rhayader will be open and maybe the news agent in Llangurig but that'll prolly only be for the morning if at all.

There's a shop in Pontrhydfendigaid (SN730 664) which is well stocked and always busy ... may make a good supply point before the more remote stretches.

Having had a look at this in more detail, I think navigation in the dark might be more straight forward than I imagined as there are good road sections further round. As the route goes up Devil's Staircase, it might be an advantage to do it in the dark...

Thanks for help for resupply.

I see a few places where I could kip but still have no real feeling where I can get to.

Managed to get maps printed through memory map after a few attempts. Case of turning printer off and on again!

Are folks bothering with stoves? It's more weight and space against hot meal and drink. Decision I may make at short notice.
