Post by Mpolo »

My partner and i are planning a trip to Morocco at Christmas. We are thinking of the anti atlas mountains as it is further south and not as high as the Atlas which can be snow bound at that time. i am struggling to find maps or routes can anyone help

To be honest it's almost twenty years since I last cycled there. It's probably all changed now. Where once were crumbling marabouts and citadels are probably Ikeas & Aldis now. We used Michelin road maps to plan a lot of our route as a lot of the unpaved desert pistes were marked on then. We also used local knowledge as we went along and asked where interesting looking tracks went. We probably had a Rough Guide or had a quick butchers at other travellers' guides for info on towns or gorges. Anyway, it's a nice neck of the woods and I'm sure you'll find plenty of options if you make some of it up as you go along, but also, there must be a lot of other peoples more up to date knowledge online. You could also ask around over on http://www.ukclimbing.com/forums/

I must get out there again!

thanks for the link to uk climbing mr Slugwash. have had a look and there appears to be a climbing book on the area with maps which are a bit of a difficulty. There is plenty for the atlas but its rather cold at christmas. We have visited Morocco several times but not with bikes. yes there are many crumbling towns and villages but many roads have been tarmaced recently

I now have an electronic map for Morocco for a yet to be acquired GPS andy a few paper maps. Names of places vary between the paper, google earth, GPS and the rough guide. How substantial a place is difficult to gauge google earth is good for this. I have also realised there are far more tracks than on the gps map or the paper. I guess we will be exploring quite a bit.

Here is a link to my partners blog with our plan
