Some of you will have noticed that this years route makes use of the Penmaenpool bridge. It can be crossed at any time but please bring 30p with you ... we do like to pay our way

Is this the one where if you are a famous GCN presenter he lets you off?

Nice one for that Stu. Apparently there are also toilets in the hut around there.

Considering the mass of individual coins, it might be worth paying a little extra and saving a few grams.

For example, a 10p weighs 6.5g and a 20p weights a mere 5g. Therefore carrying 2x 20p coins and leaving a 10p tip represents a saving of a full 1.5g compared to the common 10p + 20p combination!!

Furthermore, a 50p coin only weighs 8g. This represents a 2g saving over 2*20p coins and a whopping 3.5g saving over the 1*10p + 1*20p combination! The 20p tip might seem a little OTT to the typically frugal bikepacker, but I'm sure I'm not alone in spending more to save less in the past..

As with all these things, there's a law of diminishing returns - a 5 pound note weighs a miniscule 0.7g, but I'd rather swim

Ow much does a good old fashion 'quid' weigh pls Jon. I'm thinking that if I paid a quid and saved some weight. 2 other riders might get through on that. Shaving alot of weight.

In any case, carrying a full 11.5g seems to be taking the p. (or g)!

8.75g. A decent power to weigh ratio but unfortunately, using the mighty pound to pay for others would count as gear-sharing, potentially leading to disqualification :o

We're only a few posts in and I'm all at sea (*) already, no idea  .

(*) literally since Mawddach still tidal at that point I believe.

Erm, surely there's a business opportunity here for someone with a packraft? JC? 100 entrants at 29p a go (to undercut the bridge toll) - £29 in the pocket  .

29p. Imagine the weight of that that tough Reg. Am hoping we see JC around there somewhere. Oozing forward too seeing Allen too, might grab an autograph on the back of my jersey. Must take appropriate marker pen.

You wont catch me on a BB200
And Allen is away this year, so save the pen weight

So, this bridge (yes, recent Google activities/reviews also clarify 30p on foot or £1 in car) is suggested as being closed at 1830. Has anyone actually ever used it. If we got there at say 1840 (like some people have a habit of dragging them feet) it's closed!!

Does that mean settling down for the night or would one jump the fence/gate. Asking for a friend.

Edit: it looks like there's a walkers gate inside the main gate. So hopefully feet daggers should be fine. So would those determined to swim across.

Shaf - stop thinking. I've already checked that you'll have access no matter what time.

Sorry Stu and thanks. Message to self, stop thinking. Gonna pencil that in on the bike, along with the checkpoints/shops/mileages.

A fun fact learned chatting to a guy met while we were riding the Yorkshire Divide Source to Sea Trail back in May was that Penmaenpool bridge is owned by a bike shop, or perhaps more accurately the owner of a bike shop.

I recall there being toilets at the station a little way before the bridge? I might be wrong though as it's been a while.

Yeah, in the carpark for the Mawddach Trail. And there's a pub there too.
