It appears that summer may be drawing to an end, mornings / evenings are getting colder and darker, the odd leaf is starting to fall and all the swallows look like they're getting ready to leave ... so, with that in mind does anyone have any plans to buy any new 'winter specific' kit? Something to keep you warm and dry or maybe help shorten the long nights.
A limited edition Black Rock beanie landed here this morning
Bear Bones beanies will be available before the onset of winter ... for anyone hatless
Could be tempted by a Singular Puffin, following a ride on Aidan's earlier this week...
The picture I saw made it look like the most unfat fat-bike I've seen ... that's meant in a good way, kind of looked like a more 'normal' bike with great big tyres. It almost looked subtle if that makes sense?

Was that this pic?
Sam has done a great job on the geometry, it's really good fun to ride. You don't really notice the fat tyres in some respects as the handling is still surprisingly sharp.
My one stand-out purchase last winter was a set of snow-shoeing boots from Decathlon. Nicely insulated and waterproof. It means flat pedals rather than cleats but I find them a bit cold in winter anyway
I've recently picked up a Montane Fireball. I suspect it'll be more versatile and more suited to British conditions than my down jacket. It's not quite as warm, but it's a bit lighter, so for anything other than subzero conditions I reckon it'll become my warm layer of choice.
I'm currently working on modifying a bag for winter use. I'll be adding more down to the top and removing the down from the bottom where they'll be a slot to take my Neoair Xtherm. I guess it'll be a kind of top bag - quilt type of Frankenstein bag. I'm hoping it should enable me to head out during the winter without suffering,as I did last year. I'm just waiting on a second hand down jacket to arrive from eBay which will be a down donor.
The hoods coming off too so I might be in the market for a BB beanie
