Cycle shorts or new saddle?

Post by Diplodicai »

I'm heading off for about 12 days riding in the uk. My charge spoon is flaking at the nose, so I'm in a bit of a quandry. I was going to take two or three pairs of cycling shorts, and when passing through a town was going to do a classic Laundrette pub combo. is it worth getting another pair or two of shorts, or should I spash out and get a brooks?

I wouldn't be setting off for 12 days on a new Brooks saddle ... but I also wouldn't be taking more than 1 spare pair of shorts either. ;)

Why not just buy a new Spoon?

Won't a Brooks saddle take a year to break in?

I've never done 12 days riding on the trot like that but three pairs sounds loads, coming from the bloke with nearly the heaviest bike at WRT 2013 though that's a bit rich...... ;)

FWIW, the first ride on my Brooks B17 was a 60-miler round East Lothian and it was supremely comfortable from start to finish. It hadn't been used all that much when I did my 1000, mile LeJog either.

Max spare shorts I take is one, or even none. Wash at the end of the day then hope they dry overnight. If not then Lycra doesn't take too long to dry out when you put them back on.
