GFBD

Post by summittoppler »

Typically for Global Fat Bike Day, I'd lead a ride either around Newborough with a camp or in Snowdonia with a stay at a mountain cottage. Unfortunately as Covid bit me a couple of months back, the bike wasn't even looked at and plans were not thought of. So it was to be a solo trip this year.
With some summer 'referbishments' made to mt winter bivvy spot I thought I'd give it a go. A fairly chilly evening was warmed up by the fire (in a fireplace) after strapping the wood to the panniers. A calm evening and a good nights sleep was had. I awoke this morning to winter trying to make it mark.
A wonderful night away!
Some pics...

Looks great Geoff, the work you did is paying off.
If it's any use to you, I've found that those bags of self-lighting charcoal are a good alternative to carrying wood if you're going somewhere with a fireplace.

Goodness, that is just brilliant. Slinging a tarp over a zillion year old stone hut thingy (I'm sure that is the proper name) and eating a proper meal on a slab of slate. Well done, you.
I'm just going outside ...

Like I say I've been doing a bit of work on the place this year. The south wall had collapsed completely so that was rebuilt (I'm a bricky!). The floor needed a good sort out too as that is where the wall fell in the past. This pic is from the 1st time I used it nearly 2 years ago. You can see I can now use a 3x3 tarp and use the complete footprint of the structure. I like to think I'm preserving the building, might do a bit of a referb on the others too...

Definitely, can't really see a downside as you clearly know what you are doing and they are fairly inaccessible

Top work on the re build mate.

Would love to find and work on something like that in the wilds, but not much chance here near Liverpool

Good effort Jeff. That's immediately got me thinking of a few ruined old cotts up this way. My bricklaying skills are none existent however...
Sadly I missed GFBD this year due to other stuff on, may try and make next weekends winter bivvy my day, given the weather!
