Bivvy spot near Winchester?
I'm hoping to do the sdw later in the summer if all this poor show calms down and was hoping to bivvy beforehand near the start in winchester. Does anyone know of anywhere suitable?

This is my neck of the woods, send me a pm and I can pass on some spots.

A bit further on is Old Winchester Hill Fort.
I have camped here many times. There is a nice sheltered area with old yew trees. Hammock or tent.
It is a protected area, but discreet camping has been tolerated. The NT website used to say this - relating to travelling the SDW. Just avoid ground nesting bird areas.
No cycling on the summit. There is a bypass route.
In the morning, a great descent to the fishing pond for the cafe and tap. Two more cafes and taps further on. Eastbound.
A couple of wild swim holes in Winchester. Not done them yet. Next time.
Also two pubs between Winchester and the hill fort.

Thanks both, that's great. Still to see whether the weather gods and my wife align before committing, but I'll drop you a line as soon as I know, shutuplegs. Cheers!
