10g Stove

At a loose end following the no-show of my spokes I fished out an old smidge bottle and made a little meths stove. I used a Stanley knife blade to slowly cut the bottle, scored a line around it then punched some holes in it as I didn’t have any small drills.

Works a treat, forgot to put an air hole in the first burn so it hunted a little all’s good now. Blooms faster than my red bull can stoves.

At first I made it too big and lost performance, it’s quite a fine balance.

Trying to work out how you 'remove' a bit of hole H.O.T.T., ie put back non-hole. Bit of solder or summat?

You did a much neater job than when I did that with my MYOG* mini-stove Stuart may remember that poor, dented thing.

I've spent years trying to forget

The top notch is goverened by a number of factors such as internal volume, jet hole size and placement. Adding a notch because I do, may not lead to stove happiness

Well at first the internal pressure was doing bad things, I made the vent too big and it struggled to stay lit, just sanded a little off the top.

Steve how did you make the "upside down funnel" bit - the bit that sits inside the casing with the wee gap at the bottom. And how did you seal it? When I was making stoves - and I made dozens of them - I used aluminium beer bottles, hacksaws and a car jack. I suspect you took a more elegant approach?

He mentioned it was much simpler than that . Erm, harrumph, I mean it took weeks of carefully calculated experimentation.

Sorry for the late reply Tim, it’s just the top of the smidge bottle cut off then pressed into the base, a couple of groves cut to allow the meths through. Fits it tight so seals itself.
