I've only used one, Conti Terra Trail; they've been mixed. Great in the current dry and dusty conditions, utterly poor show in the slop over winter. Will replace them with Vittoria Terreno's when the time comes.
There are theories at the bottom of my jargon.

I've been using WTB Nano 40s for the last year and I struggle to fault them for the riding I've done but I'll be swapping to Gravel King SK 43s next as a new frame should give me a bit more clearance. I'll be very interested to see how they compare with the Nanos as visually they appear less knobbly but all the reviews I've read seem to be very positive about them.

Resolutes for looser conditions. I also found them surprisingly good on tarmac. First ride I did on them was 80 miles of nearly all road, and while obviously not the ideal tool for the job, it wasn't a miserable experience.

Those things that PlanetX did were actually very good - don't think they make them any more.

Resolutes have been great for a mix of terrain and have just stayed on my bike since I got them. As landslide says, better than you expect on tarmac and good in sandy / muddy conditions. I was thinking of swapping to 700 x 44 byways for road duties but the purple gravel kings have an aesthetic appeal.

The Gravel Racers? They were made by Vee iirc. I agree they were brill. The Vee version is the Rail iirc. Little uns Islabike has a small pair fitted!Bearbonesnorm wrote: ↑Fri Apr 10, 2020 3:54 pm Those things that PlanetX did were actually very good - don't think they make them any more.
Nanos have been very good for me and I've been very impressed by my Sparwoods and theres a skinny version of them with a different name.

WTB Ventures are the sweet spot between grip and speed for me. I have 700x50 in my Trek 920 for New Forest roads and Gravel - the grrr is on the chunkier side!

Conti AT Ride
Would be pretty much perfect if they were natively tubeless compatible and slightly wider. (Same tread pattern is available in a wider 29inch tyres, see comment below)
WTB Riddler 45 are nice; ridden several events and 1,000km’s on two pairs. Has to be dry; they’re borderline lethal if it’s even slightly muddy. (See comment below)
Really easy to fit to Mavic Open Pro UST Disc rims, inflate with a standard track pump and absolutely no faffing.
My gravel bike now has 28mm slicks for road use, seen the light and bought a hardtail mountain bike. And, oh my lord the mountain bike kicks the arse of my gravel bike.

WTB resolutes :)
Saying that, I have some nanos to go on next because they're spare :)

Also like the Conti AT rides - pretty puncture proof so can be run with tubes without too many issues and good value compared to hipster clements.
Currently got Giant crosscuts on - a big burly tyre (45mm). Heavy but idiot proof and rolls well despite its weight

Re: What's your favourite 700 gravel tyre?
+1 for Nanos
The combination of decent rolling on road with really much better than expected performance off-road* means I'll be repeat purchasing once these give up the ghost.
*I once rode the red downhill run in Le Tour (Chamonix) on my gravel bike and it was genuinely, surprisingly, not as lethal as I imagined

Re: What's your favourite 700 gravel tyre?
Nanos here to, great compromise tyre. Good enough on most off road but I’ve also done a road century on them once because I was too lazy to swap them over
Re: What's your favourite 700 gravel tyre?
yes, but so much faffing
i don't have a compressor, maybe that would have worked
inflate with an inner tube
carefully remove one side of the tyre and the inner tube
place wheel on a bucket
lots of mucoff of the bead, soapy solution might work
inflate like a wotsit (normal track pump)
keep going until bead takes
add more mucoff if needed
once inflated go to ~50psi
let tyre down and add sealant through valve
re-inflate to 50psi
swish sealant around
leave
re-inflate to required pressure
such a shame not a tubeless version
however, there is for 29x2.3 (i.e. my spesh epic comp carbon), so all is good

That's not a faff at all is it!

Re: What's your favourite 700 gravel tyre?
standard tubeless procedure that isnt it
PS I have a compressor - it does not ensure hassle free tubeless set ups - then again I have been known to use not tubeless tyres on non tubeless rims so that hardly helps-never failed though I have taken days on one set up to get there.
