Shall I go out? - help me decide.

Post by Bearbonesnorm »

It's snowing, under the snow is ice and they've promised lots more snow from midnight tonight onwards ... shall I go for a night out tomorrow ? Part of me says yes, get out there man and part of me says, I could stay here, snuggled up in front of the Aga.

What would you do in this situation ?

Compromise; sleep in the bunkhouse and don't light the fire :)

YES, you should.

Its gorgeous out there, it might rain for a month soon which is grim. Then you'll be sorry if you dont go now whilst its so nice.

Here we go ... one tarp and hammock rigged very badly. It's much too cold to be outside for long

On Thurs 17th the forecast is for worse than Tuesday and you are thinking of going out :?:

If you decide to go and like Scott don't come back can I get first rummage through your bike shed, please? :D

My Carver is rideable :)

But it's warmer now it's snowing ... however the mountain weather forecast did say a foot of snow and once the windchill was taken into account temps on the hills will feel like - 12

Nice work on the Carver btw ;)

Well I've been out. :D
28 mile round trip to the bike and outdoor show. Couldn't stay for long as I had to get back for school pick up but it was much the same as last year. Everything seemed dominated by 29ers! Had a nice chat to Dom from Genesis bikes. I love their stuff.
I got to ride the cable car over the Thames to ExCel too:

Just comparing your pictures to the scene outside my window ... I think we're in different countries* ;)

*Yes, I know that we are actually in different countries but you know what I mean.

Yeah that's a bit scary! Helicopters over London is becoming more and more of a problem.

Was still cold out (-6 this morning) but we didn't have snow to contend with. I plotted a route up town avoiding roads where possible and had a really nice ride through a series of parks and along a river.
Had to watch out for ice and had a couple of moments but that's half the fun ;)
The cable car ride was a bonus as I thought i'd use the Greenwich foot tunnel but then saw it wasn't much farther to the cable car. £6.40 return though with an Oyster card. Bit steep!

I bailed on a night ride this evening due to silly temperatures.

It's about -12° now and with wind-chill it reckons it feels like -18° and is blowing a really strong (snow-filled) gale - screw that!!!!!

But.....I think you should go Stuart :D

I'm with Gairy. Nice hot sauna swayed the decision to stay in this evening :)

Still can't decide  This was a few hours ago, it's still snowing and there's some high winds so drifts are 2'-3' in places ... even the llamas don't want to come out and they're from Peru ;)

Do it - you know you'll enjoy it (and if not you'll likely have a good story to tell).

I'm shortly about to act against my instincts and head out for a little tootle as it's warmed up a bit here and is only about -8°c right now (and not snowing) and my 29er is calling to me (along with my love of my new lights).

So did you go out last night???

I had a great night ride in the snow - lovely stuff (and warm too as I clearly over-compensated with silly hot clothing).

I went sledging with the kids instead. Much more fun (and dangerous). Last year riding the Green Disc of Death, I slid through dog muck and hit a park bench. Ended up with a gashed leg and smelly elbow.
