Silk bag liner

Anyone use one ? how much extra warmth do they provide ? is the Rab one at 40ish quid any good or overpriced ? The answer to any and all of these questions will hopefully be forthcoming....

Mines not silk or rab but it is warm, light and adds 8dg to my bag. Sea to summit Thermalite reactor £40ish.
When i got it the guy said it was better then a silk one but could just be sale talk

I have a rab one, I like it. I have only used it a handful of times though. Temperature wise - it adds 'a bit' of warmth. Thats about as technical as I could get on the subject though. It wont turn a summer bag to a winter one thats for sure!

I find that I get tangled up in liners but I move around a lot and can quite easily get tangled in just a sleeping bag :?

I'd much rather wear a set of baselayers than have a liner.

I agrree. I once bought a Thai silk inner bag. I hadn't realised that silk isn't always soft and, well, silky. It was like sleeping in sandpaper and definitely not warm.

I bought a cheap Highlander one and rarely use it, like Stu i'd rather wear a base layer.

I have used a silk one to add a bit of warmth to a summer bag - and wore merino baselayers too and I was snug, didn't notice much difference with my winter bag and thevsilk liner. the thermolite ones do make a more noticable difference and are good if you are not too much of a fidget

I definitely agree about the socks. I know everyone bangs on about merino but a pair of merino socks is vaguely exciting.

Finding the right beanie is a perpetual search. My current fav' is an on one version. Close to perfect for day-to-day. Have yet to sleep in it.

I really like my silk liner and use it for warmth and to keep sleeping bag clean. I also use merino socks,an Ibex beanie and base layers. The beanie is really small, light and warm.

I do have a brand new 'Blacks' silk liner for sale at £15 I could bring to El-an-back if you want to dive in. I mislaid mine and bought a new one. Of course I then found the original one.
