Quilt query

Post by rufus748 »

Looking for some advice on quilts.
I've pretty much decided on the Revelation X having read the write ups on here, questions are, Reg or Wide,
20* or 30* both with overfill?
I don't like being restricted by sleeping bags and at 6'2 and proportionately wide I fancy the idea of a quilt.
I don't do winter bivis so I am leaning towards the 30* with 30% over fill, wide and long..
For those already using them how do you find them for width, warmth etc...
Thanks

Not had a chance to use mine yet so can't comment on warmth. Although with the mild weather, I think it would be too warm at present.

Have had a lay in it indoors and the wide version feels about right. I don't like to be restricted when I sleep anyway and sometimes feel sleeping bags claustrophobic - I usually unzip them part way and hang a leg out.

I was in two minds as to what would be right to order. I figured that the minimal weight and price penalty was a fair trade off to ensure I didn't end up with something I couldn't get on with, especially considering the lack of a return option!

FYI i'm 5'9" ish and size M/L in most tops (42-44" chest I think).

Here's what I went for:

Width/Taper: WIDE/Half Taper
Inside Color: Black
Outside Color: Olive Green
Fill: 30% Overfill
Size/Temperature: 6' ~ 10° Temp.

I'd go for the wide option regardless. If you don't go out in winter then I'd say a 30 degree with overstuff* would be ideal.

*I'd go with the overstuff no matter what temp you choose as it helps hold the down in place.

I agree with Stu, get the wide. Not much extra weight or bulk. You can get by easily with a quilt that's too wide but one that's too narrow will be a real PITA, IMO 8-)

A dark colour will dry quicker ... mine's black inside and out ;)

I've taken the spinster's knickers approach to colour - practical, stealthy black on the outside and lime green on the inside. It's that bright I'm worried it might keep me awake
