Marking inside a titanium pot

I've got a alpkit myti mug the 600 I think it is. Would it be safe to engrave or even roughly scratch markings on the side for measurements on the inside of it without making it unsafe for food purposes. I want a rough measure of water levels for doing noodles etc would rather mark this than carry something else to do the job if it's safe or course

I've got a toaks ti pot and the volume markings are embossed into it. If you supported the inside and used a round ended punch or similar could you indent the side so it showed through on the inside? Obviously if it all goes wrong it's not my fault, but when I was thinking of marking the volume on a previous ti pot that was my idea.

It’s solid metal not a coating such as galvanised so you are only exposing more titanium. Just make sure that there’s no flakes left.

Definately no issue. It's a very safe alloy, which in your case will to almost all parts travel through your body anyway.
Ti alloys and in a lesser degree pure ti is also used as implants. Safe as it gets.

I had success marking my Titan kettle with a Dremel to show 100ml increments on the inside.

I had the same thought but then put marks on my plastic spork. A lot easier for the older rider to see.

+1 for the marks on the spork - kind of like a dipstick. Just need to remember that it'll be calibrated for that diameter of pot, so you'll have to repeat the process if you get a pot with a different diameter

Yet another possibility is a Morrison's (*) double-cream container . Mine acts as my bowl/mug, is clear, has 50ml gradations, and by some miracle fits exactly inside my Ti windshield, which fits exactly inside my 400ml Ti pot. And - you also get to eat the cream.....

Interesting.
Alternatively, using the 400ml pot, add the noodles then fill with water to about 1.5cm from top, then bring to boil with lid. You don't need to do any measuring.
Also if you are heating 300ml of water in a 400ml pot e.g. to add to a dehydrated meal, 300ml is about 1.5 cm from top of pan so you don't need any measure line.

An old trick that works with any vessel is to tilt it so the liquid touches both the lip and the upper edge of the base. This is exactly half the volume of the vessel

Doesn't this rely on the vessel being a uniform cross section, all the way down?

I think it needs to be a uniform section to work. My logic is that if the pot was a cone shape that came to a point at the base, when tipped so the liquid was at the top of the base all of it would run out. For the shape of the pots we use I think the very slight taper on some would not be significant.

Sorry but can't you just guestimate? Not like a few ml or 10 is going to make much difference with what we cook.
