Like a Carradice but lighter?

Does anyone make an old school saddlebag like Carradice but in VX21?

Carradice now make one in lighter weight fabric. i don't recall if it is like a Barley, Audax or something else. They have a few one offs currenly on their Ebay store

If you can find one of the older carradice overlanders they are lighter. They can sometimes be found cheap on ebay.

Ive got one that's been going very well for a few years.

Shame Carradice didn't pick vx21 for the lighter ones, probably have to wait another 20 years for that

I suppose I could always get some material and old carradice for a pattern and learn sewing machines but that seems extreme

The name listed on the contact us page is the same as the name on the bags Kickstarter. Seems to have gone back to the day job.

bikepacking seatpacks aren't very convenient for getting stuff in and out of
are generally a bit of a pain to pack
for bimbling about on gravel something more traditional saddlebag ish would be fine

They have VX21 in a bunch of colours, based in Bristol, and do custom orders. Sure they'd make you a Carradice inspired bag if you asked. They have a big Rando bag for £140, so presumably that or less.

Using a saddle bag on the front of a bike is great, easy access, doesnt sway around as much as it would on the back, looks proper.

Why worry about weight if you're 'bimbling'? Channel your inner audaxer and get a proper Barley and a bracket to fit it to you're new-fangled saddle without bag loops As you say, they're great for actually getting to the thing you want at the bottom of the bag.

Caveat: I haven't used mine in at least 8 years because I'm a fashion victim.

Tbh, I really like the old-style cotton-duck and leather Carradice, but do get miffed at having to undo buckles at times especially in the cold and rain. First world problems eh? Plastic snow-clips so much easier, but sooooo fricken ugly, to my eye anyway. I want less plastic in my life not more!

Still, Carradice have an Audax bag without leather straps, 9L capacity should be enough for bimbling, weighs less than the Swift x-pac version and made of tougher material.

Been after something similar myself for a while.

Swift Hinterland caught my eye but I just can't justify dropping that on a bag, especially when you consider how many Carradice's you could buy for that money and their longevity!

Mac Workshop is a good shout, maybe might be able to get a bit of movement on price if a few people go in together as it would be relatively easier to produce a few on they've designed the pattern, otherwise I'd chalked it down to next winters project.

I've seen quite a bit of chat saying that Mack Workshop's stuff is great, but that lead times can be a bit long and communication lacking. Worth bearing in mind if you need stuff for the near future.
