Garmin Dakota Mount - 3D Printed
My son got me a 3D printer for Xmas and it is proving to be a right laugh. It's quite fussy about various temperature settings and I'm having to tinker to get prints to work well. This is a dead useful one though. A Garmin Dakota mount. I need to tweak the base a little but it fits the GPS well and did not cost £9

When I get the printing properly sorted I'll start taking requests

That's sharp, Dave. I'd be down for an Etrex one if you get that far down the track.

Re: Garmin Dakota Mount - 3D Printed
Probably something similar to the base of the Oregon/Dakota mount with an option to mount in either orientation- straight ahead for the top tube and at 90deg for the handlebar. There's quite a few different top tube profiles as well - on six bikes I've five different profiles.Dave Barter wrote:barney wrote:If you could sort something out for bloody Spot's you'd make a fortune.

Re: Garmin Dakota Mount - 3D Printed
If you're after suggestions of things to make... how about some of those semi-circular spacers which go inside an Exposure light mount for use on small (25.4) bars but sized to suit the loop section on a Jones bar? This would avoid building up the bar diameter with black electrical tape.

Bar mount, Dave. If you're leaning forward, and the device is on the top tube, you could potentially block the signal to the satellites.

Re: Garmin Dakota Mount - 3D Printed
My SPOT is on the top tube using a home made harness and I've not noticed a problem with the signal. I put mine there, just behind the head-tube as it's more protected and also they recommend it is not too close to other gps devices.
Mine is basically a copy of this

I don't think they will post to the UK? so it I decided to base my design on theirs. The strap over the device on mine partially covers the sos/assist button covers to hold them closed and has a reflective tab for easy opening.

I agree as I keep a fuel pod on my top tube. I'm learning myself CAD this weekend so let's see what I can come up with. Also I've posted your Etrex mounts.Scattamah wrote:Bar mount, Dave. Mounts arrived for testing. Surprised at the length - there is no base support so a tether is essential. Fit is snug.
And it's orange so it matches the bike. I'll report back after it's been put through its paces this weekend.

Do you not find that spare tyre obscures your vision when riding?

You should see the mayhem when I try squeeze myself between the bike on top of the rack and the one at the bottom!
And the ensuing sh!tfest when the stand comes down and I'm half way mounted.

Re: Garmin Dakota Mount - 3D Printed
On the exposure light idea a shim to make Jones front loop to fit standard or os fittings would be great so you could solidly fit Garmins lights whatever to them
Re: Garmin Dakota Mount - 3D Printed
If your taking requests mate, and you have enough plastic any chance of one of these please pal. Not fused about the colour as long as it's to scale ta

She's following the TLS principle, she seems to have left her clothes behind, and her bike as well

Re: Garmin Dakota Mount - 3D Printed
How about a hard cover for a Topeak Digital pressure gauge so whenever I am delving into which ever bag its in I dont keep hearing the extended beep as it switches on accidentally.

Zazen - nothing happens next this is it.
Re: Garmin Dakota Mount - 3D Printed
Would love to mount my Etrex out front of the bars like a 500/800, with the top of the unit inline with the stem. Basically this https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2756931 but for the newer Etrex mount (like the one you've sent Scattamah).
Re: Garmin Dakota Mount - 3D Printed
Interesting Dave. (As you can see, I'm catching up on the forum a bit). I'd been fiddling with an injection moulded one and adapting to suite an exposure mount - with your 3D printing, this could be made to suit exactly!

I got a bit further along than this with a recessed slimline nut and some careful dremelling - I was also going to drill a small hole to attach a tether neatly. This was back in June 2015 though, so R&D is a bit slow
