I had a crazy thought.......
doing some sorting of old stuff and came across some old conti cross country 26 x 1.5 tyres.
think they might be ideal

Given the amount of pushing (even for fat bikes) then that'll probably be a good idea.

XR4/XR3 tyres now fitted to wheels. Just need to leave them overnight to ensure there's no leaks then I can swap the B+ wheels for them.
That's 1.5Kg saved off the bike

I did the infamous 2014 course on a gravel* bike, so I'm sure you'll be fine
* there was hardly any gravel

Possibly more than people imagine ... it was just under water

I really enoyed the 2014 course. There's a photo somewhere of me up to my waist in tussocky hell (and as I am short it wasn't that deep), with my bike on my shoulders, laughing at the ridiculous situation we seemed to be in.

I'll be on the 29er with ordinary middle of the road MTB specialized ground control tyres - 2.3 up front, 2.1 on the back. Cos they are set up tubeless and I can't be arksed to change them. They'll do the job.

Not ysed Maxxis before, Is a 2.3 High roller 2 a bad idea for rear of hardtail with front suss fork? My Conti rear shot recently. It'll be tubeless. Many thanks.

I'll make it two black sheep, although it'll be 40c WTB Nanos on a fully rigid Surly Ogre for me. I think.
Can't
quite decide between that and the 29er hardtail with 2.4" Ardent/Nobby Nic

It'll be reasonably draggy on the road, but nice and comfy for the off road sections. :)

I have a Maxxis HR2/Ardent combo on my Solaris
It's the draggiest thing in the world, people will hear you coming over the border as each knobbly hits the tarmac, but it's ace off road!

You might be in luck yet Bob as i'm running out of time to sort my bike out properly which will result in me throwing it in the back of the car on thursday night and using it in whatever state its in!
I was trying to get the time to bicycle the Lurcher up for one last hurrah so think yourself lucky! ;-)
