Hooded Base Layers?

Post by Bearbonesnorm »

I'm on the look out for a hooded base layer, merino, bamboo, something that doesn't stink after a day, would be an advantage, as would a price of less than £50 (which still seems quite mad).

Has anyone seen anything which might fit the bill? I seem to be struggling ;)

I've got one of these - http://www.ultralightoutdoorgear.co.uk/ ... ll_on.html

I've worn it as a base layer,it's designed to be a mid, but works just as well as a base. The fabric is not as soft as merino, but it is by no means terrible.

I think I got mine for £30 delivered.

How warm a top are you wanting (merino weight)?
Chocolate Fish have some 260gsm ones.
Ibex make a lighter weight one, but you might struggle to get one in the UK at the mo.
If you don't mind ordering from the US/Canada, there's a discussion about hooded base layers on Backpacking Light too.

Edit: Just realised you'd put £50! Sorry.

Cheers fellas ... I'll take a look.

I did see that Go Outdoors had an offer on a HH merino top but it's not available for mail order :?

I could see if our local store has one and bring it with me on Saturday.

Under Armor Compression Hoody, part of the cold gear range is great bit of kit, looks awful if you are carrying pounds though!
