I can't see them selling many of those. My prediction is there will be one and only one batch ever made, quickly reduced in price and deleted from the website, never to be mentioned again.
When I tweeted to alpkit after the FMC photo surfaced, they replied, and I quote:
'Nick is speaking to Jeff. It's all above board'.
Trail rat I tried the Jones bars and didn't like the back sweep felt like a wheel Barrow and too close to my body even with a long stem
But I liked the loop for fitting stuff on hopefully have some left when I get home
it's not that I can and others can't, it's that I will and others won't.
There are fairly standard bar with a loop attached some people will like them some people will hate them. We might only make one batch of them and that's OK
1) Yes we will do a bag for them - can't say when, as we are still selling more than we can make, and will be expanding the UK factory production again in September. We are taking on a full time sample machinist simply to make sure we bring out more products, quicker. This year has been mad as we have sold every piece of luggage, pretty much as we put in stock. So we are trying to address this issue.
2) I'm pretty interested in bars at the the moment and was riding a set of swept bars, which are upside down north roads - Circa 1950s, thats quite a long time ago, so I still feel that Jeff doesn't have monopoly on them. But it got me thinking I have been riding a Camino on 47mm Wtb riddlers on our swept drops and it close to being manageable(that means enjoy rather than endure) off road. It won't take much of a change in lever or bar design either with road or MTB or a degree of sweep and/or rise and fall to reach point of convergence.
This Confucius bar was just about offering something different and we had enough inertia to give it go. There are an awful lot of new guys entering the market so this is exciting time for bike packing equipment i'd expect a lot more pukeing. But expect a lot more ohhh....and ahhhhhs.

Well, I quite like them so I bought some and fitted them yesterday and they did very well on the up and down the road test. I dont get on with back swept bars - find they just bring the bar too close to the body in turns. The Confucius bar itself is a nicely shaped wide, flat bar with a bit of rise and a bit of back sweep. Very similar to the ones on my Whyte. I love the loop and the options it offers for different hand positions, luggage and lights etc.
While we're on the subject (Alpkit not bars), I've just received an email about a new and very interesting looking light ... however, I had to read the name 3 times before I realised it was in fact called a Hadron, not a Hardon
I have them on my fat bike since a fortnight ago, and i've only been out on one bivvy ride so far with them, but i like them, to be honest the general bar itself isn't a million miles different to a standard MTB bar it replaced (Easton Havoc), but when i had my Apidura front roll and accessory bag on, there was no way that any light attached to the bars could shine over the top (unless i bought a separate bar extension), so thought i'd give these a punt and it solves the problem.
Hopefully they'll bring out the pouch to go in the middle as coupled with a fuel tank type bag on top tube, the two will give me enough room for tools, electrics, snacks and inner tube for a days riding.

I've had a pair on/off my rigid 29er since late last summer.
I like 'em (well, not visually of course)!
They work exactly like a regular flat bar with a loop on the front so they give extra support to a bar bag, extra mounting options for lights, gadgets and gizmos and extra hands positions for longer days in the saddle.
What's not to like?
(ok so they're fugly, that's what's not to like, but who cares)
