New cx bike help req

So iv been using my surly cross check for two yrs now n love it but I think I want to change it for disc version cx bike. That way i csn use the new 29er wheels in it. Which frames will take a wider tyre n rim and what would folk recommend I really like the stoater, pickenflick n cdf frames. Can anyone recommend me a new bike ;0)

I was thinking about a ti one but then i ask myself why? Answer - coz its shinny So no probably steel or alloy. I have some hope enduro rims that i want to utilize on it, saves buying new wheels also. I want something that is fairly light but also i can use for longer touring trip also in the future

I have to say I love my Croix de Fer. Room for 40c tyres and really comfortable too.

Reasonable price helps too!

Built my 2015 frame up with SRAM Force and Rival transmission, Mavic Aksum disc wheels, carbon seat post and 3T bars and stem. I really enjoy riding it. I have ridden over 3500 miles on it and it has easily survived a couple of CX sportives and various offload rides on and around Dartmoor.

One good thing about the expanding range of bike genres being marketed at us is that there are lots of lovely bikes to choose from these days. Does make it difficult to choose though!

I really like the look of the Shand bikes so would definitely go for that if I was in your shoes and liked those 3 options the best

I have a Pinnacle Arkose 2 which, as it's a 1x10 bike, will happily run 40c tyres, though I am running 32s and mudguards on it as its my commuter

Lots of lovely shiny toys out there, but they get quite spendy quite quickly!

I've the Genesis Croix de Fer 10 http://www.genesisbikes.co.uk/bikes/adv ... -de-fer-10 as a commuter/road tourer. It's pretty decent for the money (I got the full build but they do sell a frameset) It's got 35C tyres on it, I'm not sure what the largest tyre it could accommodate which might depend if you want to fit mudguards or not. 4Kg for the frame which isn't light (my Solaris steel frame is 2.2Kg for example), the CdF10 is 13Kg or so with mudguards fitted.

Other options: the Alpkit Camino Ti but it's fairly new so there might not be many independent reviews. Frame weight is 1.7 - 1.9Kg depending on size. Then as Stuart mentions there's the On-One frames.

The Stooshie has the 44mm headtube to take a tapered carbon fork. It also has a slightly stiffer front end (resulting from fractionally larger diameter tube set), which when coupled with the carbon fork gives a nice blend of compliance in ride comfort and precision in handling. Mine builds up at 21lbs with 2x10 gears and dirt drops.

Mine has seen a lot of riding, and I absolutely love it. It does more miles than the Bahookie really, which says a bit as that too is a brilliant bike.

The lass has a Kinesis 5T and I can confirm that it's a really lovely ride. Aimed at the winter league market but pretty versatile I reckon it would handle well away from the usual CX circuits. Not silly money.

Similarly the Ridley bikes are great as well. If you go and take a look at the Hargroves Cycles page then they're selling off some previous year's models at prices that aren't as eye-watering as this year's prices. Again, popular with the winter league racers but capable machines.

Neither of them will be designed to take any of the usual touring accessories though.

Another cdf here. I built it up from the 2016 reynolds 725 frameset, 1x9 and 40mm nanos. It's more gravel tourer than cx but I guess that's what you wanted anyway.

It's not light! Mines built about 24lbs but it's really comfy and stable handling. Even with 40mm tyres I don't get toe overlap which is a big improvement over my previous more cx bikes. I used it for the Dirty Reiver and it was spot on, not been touring / bikepacking on it yet.

The frameset (725) is "3.83kg (Med frame, fork, headset & seatclamp)", about 1.2kg of that is the fork. I'd guess the frame only is more like 2.5kg so it's a bit heavy but not shocking.

Ah, not comparing like with like there am I? Surprised that a steel fork is 1.2Kg TBH, my suspension forks (for a 29er) are 1.8Kg

yeah they are actually pretty weighty, in the same region as my on one steel forks but my kitchen scales have packed up so can't get exact figures

Salsa Warbird. I'm thinking of running mine with Crests - I've got H Plus Son tubeless rims on at the moment. It's pretty light, and very comfy for an Alu bike.

I had Genesis Croix 2014 bike with custom carbon fork, size 58 frame was 2.3kg and could take not more than 38mm tyres. I'm currently building a Pinnacle Arkose - simillar geometry, but space for 42mm tyres + very nice internal cable routing. Alloy frame is 1.7kg + 0.8kg fork
