We went for an Alpine iLX-700, which is a dedicated Apple CarPlay stereo. Made a lot of sense, as Beth and I both have iPhones and all our music resides electronically now, as well as the unit then having hands free phone, messages, built in satnav and so on.slarge wrote:What stereo for the van Ian? Keep thinking about upgrading mine....

Re: The post man's been ...
I keep getting tempted by an Android Auto one for mine. Especially now that I've finally managed to unsync the previous owners phone from my stereo and sync mine only to find it only does calls over Bluetooth, not playing of music or sat nav instructions.

A copy of Laurence McJannet's bikepacking also showed up, had forgotten I'd pre-ordered it way back when. Luckily amazon price guarantee meant they only charged me £12.

Re: The post man's been ...
Man....I still have my original SP when they first did the 15mm bolt through. Zero issues yet.

Re: The post man's been ...
Mines running fine too after 2 years.

Re: The post man's been ...
Guessing it's had a bit of use too? None of mine lasted longer than 5 months or 5,000km. But 18 bikes and Ison were ace about it. Three wheels rebuilt at Ison's expense. Then when I bought the son from SJS 18 built that for free too as it was a 'warranty job'! And that is why the LBS is worthy spending the little bit extra for!GregMay wrote:Man....I still have my original SP when they first did the 15mm bolt through. Zero issues yet.

I'm not moaning chap, perfectly happy with it. The knick is diddy and will just benefit from the proverbial "stitch in time".Ian wrote:I have to say I had not noticed that!
Had I have done, I could have fixed it before sending it to you![]()
Still, at least it was cheap!

A bit of use....well 5,200km this year alone...so yeah a bit.
Guessing about 12,000km?

Re: The post man's been ...
Well, thanks to Stu & the Bearbones newsletter discount code, the postman delivered the new bikepacking book.... But now not sure whether to enter the next WRT now that the secret is out in in print! ;-)
Also had a trip to the LBS & came away with the Genesis catalogue. Also noted that the local WH Smiths had a couple of 2016 cycling mags, one devoted to specifically to touring in all forms with a list of events throughout the year... I should have bought it.
Cheers Rob

I went to the shop to pick this up, rather than it turning up
Milian Pere - an expensive metal bar to let me attach a saddle for a child on my Brompton
Had a brilliant day doing 22 odd miles around London with my son, via canals, parks, cycle ways and the Spin London show, which was very average (but Martyn Ashton was a definite highlight)

Re: The post man's been ...
Fed up with a few recent sleepless nights due to mat woes, I wouldn't normally spend this much on a mat but without a good night's sleep there really isn't much point to this bikepacking malarkey. ..

Re: The post man's been ...
A pair of Rumpus 650b+ wheels and a saddle from alpkit. Fortunately the wheels come with rim tape already fitted but not sure if it's tubeless ready/compatible
Now just waiting for the tyres (and disk rotors)

No Bob, it's just rim tape. You'll need to remove it and tape the rims.A pair of Rumpus 650b+ wheels and a saddle from alpkit. Fortunately the wheels come with rim tape already fitted but not sure if it's tubeless ready/compatibleNow just waiting for the tyres (and disk rotors)
I've just penned some more words about these wheels if anyone's arsed:http://bearbonesbikepacking.blogspot.co ... -wild.html

Re: The post man's been ...
Cheers for that Stu - will have to head down to A&X, C&A or whatever they're called and grab me some Gorilla Tape, probably the Gorilla clear repair tape if they've got it.
Gone for WTB Trailblazer 2.8" on the rear, WTB Bridger 3.0" on the front. I might be lucky with getting the Bridger in to the forks
but from what I can find out it's slightly narrower than the Nobby Nick which does fit (apparently). If not then I'm open to suggestions for a front tyre.

No Bob, it'll be a b'stard to put on. I'd just use the standard cloth type Gorilla tape.probably the Gorilla clear repair tape if they've got it.
