Salsa Anything bottle cage

i've just bought a Salsa Anything bottle cage for carrying a dry bag on my bike

not having Salsa forks i don't have mounts on my forks, i can put it on my frame but obvioulsy that will reduce the ability to carry a water bottle.

do you reckon i could attach it to my forks (possibly zip ties) or would that be a bad idea? i did try to get hold of a mounting bracket but had no joy.

Big zip ties if you're not putting much in it or jubilee clips if you are (but no more than 4lb) Put some rubber underneath it to help stop it moving around and scratching your forks.

Go with Jubilee clips, not too tight mind

Any thoughts on the best bag to use with the anything cage?

Just getting some custom steel forks with hi/lo mounts fitted.

I'm seconding the jubilee/hose-clamp clips - you can get two from Wilko's for about 90p, and chuck a strip of inner tube underneath, as the man above suggested. I've carried a litre of water in generic bottle cages mounted like that, and it works fine.

Yeah you could spend $100 or you could spend £14 on a pair of 8ltr alpkit airlok xt's.

While i love my revelate kit - the thought of spending $100 on two small cylinder type bags from Porcelain is a bit rich for me :D

8 lt drybags though that sounds mightly big too. I was thinking it would be around a 3lt bag??

have initially put it on with some zip ties but will pop to wilcos tomorrow and pick up a couple of j-clips

going on a short midweek ride tomorrow night so might chuck my sleeping bag in a dry bag as a test ride

I keep hoping someone else will bring out a better cage, hopefully with just 2 mounts. Failing that I may just buy a pair and get them modified. 2 decent mounts would be far better than the 3 weedy ones they come with.

They might just tempt me to take more stuff I don't need though.

Alpkit only make 5 and 8 ltrs bags and I'm not sure I would have got my Laser Comp in a five litre bag.

Lengthwise the 8ltr was spot on, enough to rollup for properly water tight, only a little bit of width to tuck in when strapping on.

3lt would be rather small I think.

I'd be a bit worried about mounting with cableties, there is not a lot to stop the cage from getting knocked and spinning backwards around the fork leg and into the wheel, with potential for some over the bars action or trolleying the cage and whatever is in it.
The cages are fairly good but a bit fragile, one of mine is cracked already. I'm hoping that genesis bring out a decent more robust offering now they make a bike to take them.
