MYOG 112.5g Cookset.

Post by Ray Young »

After quite a few attempts I have eventually made a pop can stove (well, beer can really) that I am happy with so I thought i'd show you my complete cookset.
The pot stand you have seen before but is now just a stand and not a windshield as well, this meant I could cut bits out to lighten it further.
I added a tin foil sandwich tray windshield which keeps the heat where it's needed.
The pot is a Trangia 1L cut down. I put in 500ml of water and marked it 5mm above the water line then cut it down to size. The pot lid is again tin foil sandwich tray. The pot and lid come in at 55g with the whole lot coming in at 112.5g on my not exactly brilliant kitchen scales.

On the scales.

All the bits which fit in the pot.

Lovely blue flame and flame spread.

The ring in front of the burner (in the bits pic) is simply for getting the burner at the right height as you can see above, if I re do the pot stand I can get rid of this bit.

Very nice Ray and as you say, no yellowing on the flame tips. Did you drill the jet poles or use a pin etc?

I shall be along later with this weeks 'Bored in a barn' production ;)
May the bridges you burn light your way

Hi Stu, I drilled the jet holes using a pin vice (a hand held twist drill used for modeling).

I have decided to make a new pot stand. This will get rid of the spacer for the burner but more importantly I can make the stand smaller as the pop can burner stands half the height of the trangia that the stand was built for, this in turn will lead to the height of the windshield being lower. Sub 100g cookset coming up? I'll let you know.
