A nice mellow London-Brighton offroad route which can be started anywhere in West London on the Thames towpath (which starts somewhere around Barnes or Brentford I think).
Not really a bikepacking route - but a nice long ride to do in a day (and an epic out and back which I have planned)
Thames Towpath
Wey Navigation
Downslink cycle trail
South Downs Way
Road from Shoreham to Brighton
Only one hill in the whole day!
Be sure to stop at Stan's Bike Shack in Horsham if you do it - lovely people...great cakes!

Nice one.
I periodically ride London-Brighton when I'm back in town and nearly always do it on the road due to lack of time to plan anything offroad.
Will give this one a go next time the chance arises (possibly in April).
Cheers!

If it's a nice day it's sell worth suffering the sdw climb up to truleigh hill for the views- then follow the ridge until you climb up out of the farm after the devil's punchbowl and turn right towards Brighton that way.
Does add some climbing for tired legs but the views are worth it! The cake in saddlescombe farm is monumental too.

Will do!Dan_K wrote:Let me know if you do this Gairy and I'll tag along if you don't mind company.
It's looking likely that I might have a free day on/around April 20th so it's currently (very lightly) penciled in for then.
I'll have to let you know nearer the time of its actually going to happen as our UK trips are always hectic and subject to change.
Cheers, Gairy.
Re: London - Brighton (Offroad) 120km
Ok cool. Can't do the 20th as I'm doing the Capital Trail 22nd-25th April and it's swallowed up my "worksmart" days for those two weeks (I do compressed hours so get one weekday off a week).
Let me know nearer the time and we'll try to work something out.
