WRT: anyone else nervous?

its only riding and camping and sharing the hills with like minded souls but how come I am feeling so nervy?!

worried that everyone will be cooler, more savvy and generally know what they are doing!

Not nervous but excited.

Don't worry about looking like you know what your doing, there'll always be somebody more hopeless than yourself and there'll probably be nobody about to witness the hamfistedness anyway.

Just enjoy.

hahahahaha - bikepacking is probably the least cool niche scene I have ever had anything to do with (no offence guys). well its that and Land Rovers running close :) ow yer and there is sea fishing (the cool kids only do spearfishing).

I'm a bit the same but then I've broken it down and thought about things.
If my route turns out to be sub standard and a complete bogfest, I'll sack it off and cut it short. I'm used to camping in tents so bivvying worried me. Having spent loads and got a rab storm bivvy and silnylon tarp, I'm worrying about being wet and covered in midge bites.
As a solution, I've lined up my 2kg 2 person backpacking tent to bring if the last minute forecast is rubbish. I've managed to frame mount it so the weight will be central. At least I know that if I have a warm dry camp, I'll be happy!
I may not be as cool or lightweight but if I end up happy and have a good time, who cares?!

It's an adventure, that's why you're nervous, it's part of the fun and why you're doing it :) Like most things, the first time is the best!

Our first WRT in 2010 was brilliant, the first day was an ordeal but a laugh, the second was just fab riding and the third (which I must get up on my blog) was an ace ride through the middle of nowhere for miles and miles and miles.

dont worry about your route, it can be changed

dont worry about your legs, they will keep turning if you keep eating

dont worry about your kit its only 2 nights out

dont worry about your bike unles you just got it out of a box and built it.

I think mountain mayhem is sub standard, so i don't bother.

If you want to be herded around a field like sheep, then mountain mayhem is fine.

If you want the freedom to explore some of the best of mid Wales and test your fitness, outdoor skills, navigation and have good laugh while you do it, then WRT is the event to do.

Test navigation? Most people are following a GPS!

but you still need to know how to read an OS map. If you dont, you could find yourself in a bit of trouble.

dont worry about your bike unles you just got it out of a box and built it.

Last year a crazy German guy collected a C'dale Flash in Banff Canada one day and the next day started the Tour Divide. And he finished it - straight out of the box, no shake down ride!

Confident in my bike and don't mind sleeping rough...not so confident in being by myself for so long as that's a new one to me really. Unfortunately none of my friends could grasp the idea of the event so solo it is.

Didn't do any long rides to train due to lack of time so keeping the mileage sensible and plodding around enjoying Wales. The WRT is the only bike event I am doing this year as nothing else interests me. Some of my friends will be doing GT7 this weekend, yeah actually pay money just to ride round and round Glentress for 7 hours
