Opinions on camouflage tarps?
Just wondering if anyone uses a camouflage tarp or tent. I don't and never would. The reason being is that if I were to spot camouflage I would think the person is very obviously trying to hide their presence and start to wonder why. Is it just me that thinks this way?

It's not something I've ever used. IMO anything camo' seems to indicate cheap/nasty ... except flatfishys super winter palace, hammock tarp which is neither

I've got a camo poncho tarp which is cheap and nasty coz that's the colour they had
I've got a camo sdg bel air ti which is lovely and I thought would show the dirt less than my leopardskin one

i'd never choose camo but if what i wanted was only available in camo then i'd buy it.
camo to me reeks of military wanna-be types (think Mike from Spaced) who take themselves too seriously (obviously just a daft stereotype).

sure, that would be your opinion 'if you were to spot camouflage' but the relevant point is that you haven't already - thus proving that camo works!!!Ray Young wrote:The reason being is that if I were to spot camouflage I would think the person is very obviously trying to hide their presence and start to wonder why.

There's camo and there's CAMO, if you get my drift. Personally I'm not a fan, but I also appreciate my usual choice of colours wouldn't be the best for bivi / hammock uses. I do find a lot of the stuff around a bit on the "subtle" side. Lots of black, olive, brown etc. Hey ho, you can't tell the colour in the dark 8-)
Saying that, my mates wet themselves at the "coyote brown" TQ from UKhammocks that is most definitely shiney gold condom attire.
Re: Opinions on camouflage tarps?

In the picture is two hammocks with tarps, one coyote brown and one Digicam.
The digi unfortunately is sylnylon, meaning its shiny making it quite visible and the pattern has too much repetition to make it really useful. It's also quite dark meaning it's quite obviously squareish shaped and not natural.
I however like it, so bog off.

It's either that or an off colour white ish cuben fibre colour for a third of the weight and twice the price.

Just trying to get you back for suggesting it to me in the first place. That was me another £90 poorer!

I might if I'd used the damn thing. Gear accumulation is outweighing trips (of any bloody type) at the mo'
Re: Opinions on camouflage tarps?
bought a dd camo tarp as the red alpkit one was a bit loud and got me noticed, used it for the first time this weekend and the quality it sh1te, missing loops to attach guy lines, untidy sewing, not impressed really.
but to answer your question, i think its always best to look as inconspicuous as poss
