Garmin Etrex CX problems
Just picked up an etrex CX for the WRT. I can't get my Mac to recognise it though - I've downloaded the drivers off the web but still no luck.
Any suggestions?

Re: Garmin Etrex CX problems
This is really the blind leading the blind but this worked for my Venture CX this morning.
Connect the gps to the computer before you turn the computer on.
Follow what is says in this link -http://support.garmin.com/support/searc ... 000000000}
Go to the gps main menu and set-up. Then go to interface where you should see it says connected, press the joystick/toggle thing and a picture of a gps connected to a computer should come up on the gps screen. If that works then you should be in.
I also found that I can't eject the gps (like you would any external device) I have to shutdown to remove it

Re: Garmin Etrex CX problems
Does the Cx have a micro SD card? You might be better using a card reader to access that rather than going through the GPs to get to it. Garmin's software (both on the GPS and for the computer) is horrible - I ended up buying a netbook just so I could run XP to talk to my old etrex H.
My new etrex 30 is much nicer to use - plug into my powerbook and it pops up as a pair of external drives (one for the GPS, one for the SD card) and you can just drag stuff around.

It is pretty awful. I have a Legend Hcx and use either basecamp or bike hike.

I'm giving up - despite trying everything I can't get it to talk to my Mac - it's going back for a refund!
I think I'll go back to the original plan of an Etrex 20 - anyone on here had much experience with one? Anyone used one with a Mac?

The 20 works fine on a Mac although I flogged mine as I couldn't download maps ... nowt to do with the unit or the Mac, more to do with Garmin being tw*ats

Stu - was that due to the Satellite internet or are Garmin that bad?

Re: Garmin Etrex CX problems
Sort of both really ... Garmin don't support map downloads via satellite and I didn't (and still don't) want to cough up what they want for an sd card. It also bothers me that you can buy a card for Scotland but if you want Wales it comes with southern EnglandStu - was that due to the Satellite internet or are Garmin that bad?

Re: Garmin Etrex CX problems
I've just got an Etrex20 & he device itself seems to be OK and relatively user friendly - but NB I'm a GPS newbie so not had anything to compare it to before
As other have said, the Garmin website and 'product management' is a joke, but, after a good few hours of work, I've at last got working with Base Camp sorted and can get stuff on & off the Etrex OK.
The Birds Eye Select maps work quite well - just NB you can't buy them online out of office hours it would seem!
Still working my way through the whole route/track/waypoint/waymarker jargon nonsense but hope to crack that after using it in anger this weekend
So far my experience is GPS = steep learning curve!
