2016 isn't that far away, so what's on your 2016 'bucket list' (did I just say that )
Have the option of one of the following and all sound good to me
-Some form of Icelandic trip for a week
-Some form of Norwegian trip for a week
-North Coast 500 (or at least the majority of it)
-Ireland southern coastal trip on the fatbike
The top two will more than likely be dream trips, so will more than likely be one of the bottom two
possibly highland trail, as a 10 day tour.
2 weeks touring in Brittany for my 50th. staying in posh places, eating posh snap.
sweary northerners elderly section drinking and pootling week away.
Back to Back in January
Dirty Reiver in April
TD in June
Lots of long rides to prepare for the above!
BB200 In October
Don't think I'll push my luck for much else, maybe a couple of Scott Marathons.
*edit* Duh, Back to Bach and BB200 are a given

January - Fat Biking in Austrian Tirol
April - Dirty Reiver
May - Considering ITT of HT550 after failed attempt last year
June - NAVAD 1000 (signed up drunk... not sure whether to put myself through it or not).
June - Liguria Trail (might do this instead of above)
August - Taking a few weeks off to go road bike touring with the Mrs.
October - BB200
Probably some other things here and there... Going to be a good year!
Main plans are:
Skye to Aberdeen off road C2C
NC500 (likely a variation of it)
Some of the Forfar audax's, 100, 150, 200 as they're reasonably convenient off the ferry (if you can call a 14hour ferry convenient)
Plus some exploring in the cairngorms in Easter and the summer while on family holidays.
Not really made much in the way of plans yet. So far it's looking like...
January - Bach to Bach
Summer - Whistler Bike Park (For about 10 days)
August - Leadville 100 (If I get in on the lottery, if not I'll do it 2017 with more training, and consider paying to get in)
October - BB200. Now I know I can handle it, I'll try to be up there with the faster riders.
I'll likely add more to that as 2016 rolls on, but I'm buying a house at the start of the year so I doubt I'm going to have a lot of time.
- Dirty Reiver
- Packraft trip along the Caledonian canal
- 2 months through Scandinavia and possibly the Baltic states again but with more of a focus on off/gravel roads
- A long group start ITT tagged on the end of the above if I get a place.
- Plus hopefully lots of little overnight trips with the g/f.
Might try to make the Turin-Nice rally and BB200 too, but that's way to far away to know.
I'm not setting myself "proper" targets other than actually get out more than I did this year, ironically since I got the Longitude I've barely been out.
My new years resolution is to get a bit fitter so I guess my only bucket list event is BB200.
Emigrate to Australia
Familiarisation with a whole new continents worth of new mixed surface routes
Help son get more enthused by riding dirt / gravel
Get embedded with ozzy BBB types
Start training programme with Billy Rice on 1st Feb
Plan for 1000miles with Paula Regener on her round the world womens title attempt (Sydney to Adelaide leg) in June / July
Try to put together a TCR type event (details to follow if licenses can be got!)
Get daft fit and have fun on my bicycle
The young kids thing is my reason for a more modest want list!
Wrt, I have a free pass for this and 2 other bivi weekends away, that's all I ask for. Not to much surely?
My main plan for next year is the HT550 group start.
So far this and a recce trip in early april are on the calendar. As I marshaled the three peaks CX this year I have a guaranteed entry for next year. Gulp..
Would love to ride the CL300 at some point. maybe the group start next year, not sure yet.
Also three weeks in the alps/pyrenees in school summer holidays
Lots of things in the planning stage and so the reality is unlikely to match the list below but......
- January: Austria Fatbiking.
- January: Snow Bike Festival, Switzerland (free place as otherwise could never afford the entry fee).
-March: Fatbikepacking trip in the Jura.
- June: Tuscany Trail, Italy.
- July: The Etape Du Tour.
- September: Turin-Nice.
- October: BB200.
If I manage all that I'll be bloody amazed but you've got to aim high etc...
I started this year with lots of plans, most of which didnt come to pass. 2016 will no doubt be the same with mostly last minute overnighters and one of two longer trips. One plan that IS going to work out is a week in March while my family are off skiing and Im heading to the Basque country where I hope it will be warmish and dryish.
Well it looks like July for a big chunk of the Trans Sierra Nevada Trail out of Granada, bikepacking on fatbikes. If anyone has done it I'd welcome your insights....
Feb - Portland Coastal Half marathon (entered on a bet with a mate that I can beat him even though I'm no runner, looking promising so far)
April - Dirty Reiver 200
July - Mille Pennines 1000 audax
September - Torino - Nice 700
Might revisit the Dorset 'Doddle' 50km or try the Salisbury 50km events if the running continues to go well.
Couldn't commit to the Irish 2000 audax unfortunately, partly time away from the family and partly work.
There'll be some other local-ish things filling in the gaps; audax SR series, Dorset Gravel Dash or Erlestoke12 (they tend to be on the same day in May), an interesting-looking Normandy 400k audax mid-July, BB200 in October.
Nothing major for me. 2015 didn't materialise into what I wanted to be doing on the bike, I'll put the blame on my 3 pesky kids!!
2016 plans are:
Some sort of Scottish bothy to bothy trip on the fatbike, hopefully easter hols.
Biking around Glen Coe in may
Forth fat gathering may
And hopefully get to test a few more fat bikes
BAM: 2014, 2018, 2024* *Thanks to BAM adjudicators
Currently:
- Six weeks causing through europe on a touring bike
- New job (because of the above)
- More adventures somewhere else (might as well make the most of a summer unemployed...)
